The mesozoic or the dinosaur era msy as well have been an alien planet due to how different and unrecognisable the ecosystems were. However, oddly just before this period before the dinosaurs evolved the landscapes and creatures would have actually been more familiar in some ways. The earth's global temperatures were similar today and the largest carnivorous creature of the time was more closely related to mammals than reptiles, however, that is where the similarities end. As dimetrodon lived hundreds of millions of years ago they diverged from mammals in many ways.
