Tony, Christopher, and A.J. all struggle with depression, but the way each of them deals with it says a lot about the generation they come from. Tony tries to push through it and keep functioning, Christopher becomes more open about how empty he feels but still carries the shame around it, and A.J. grows up in a world where therapy, medication, and openly saying “I’m depressed” are much more normal. In this video, I look at how The Sopranos uses all three characters to show depression changing across three generations, while the same family damage keeps getting passed down underneath it.
