🏞️ In the uneasy years following the Civil War, fifteen-year-old Shay Cecil watches his determined mother make a startling decision: she will leave their Missouri home, cross the wild American frontier, and find the husband who abandoned his family. Traveling by riverboat and wagon, three generations of the Cecil clan face ruthless outlaws, bitter winter storms, hunger, fear, and the unforgiving distance between Boone’s Lick and Fort Phil Kearny. Along the way, an encounter with the young Wild Bill Hickok hints that history is being made all around them. 🐎 Told through Shay’s observant and increasingly mature voice, Boone’s Lick blends coming-of-age drama, frontier hardship, dark humor, and the complicated bonds holding an unconventional family together. 🧭 Thank you for accompanying the Cecils across the American West.
