Space seems cold, but it's actually warm! The particles in space can reach temperatures of thousands of degrees - but that doesn't make space feel warm. The practical reason space feels warm is that it's really empty! You don't lose heat by conduction or convection, only radiation. Which isn’t a very effective way to cool down. ©2025 xkcd, inc.
