Currently Playing: Do we know how lava lamps work?

So this has been on my to do list for a long time, and I'm baffled by how little has been said about lava lamps. That said, there are a lot of papers about convection heterogeneous fluid mechanics, but that still doesn't assemble it all into a cohesive quantitative explanation for lava lamps specifically! So here's what we got! #physics #lavalamp #thermodynamics #hydrodynamics #explained
