Concept and emotions for Sapphire Night! ~ Lore - Fantasy version: An orca is trapped in a snowglobe, shaken around by careless handlers. Someone/something comes along and helps the orca escape, returning them to the sea. Gratitude spills over in melody as the orca returns to the open ocean. IRL themes: A perpetual feeling of loneliness surrounds the protaganist of the story, feeling monotony, carelessness, sadness. Someone, whether yourself, a caring person, a new direction, art/music, passion, helps to break you free of being stuck in these emotions and transmute them into something new. Finding yourself through expression of your passion. An overarching sense of gratitude washes over and is expressed in this melody! Some personal lore: The melody and lyrics of the chorus came to me while I was walking in a trail that had so many waterfalls. Waterfalls are so clarifying, I like to imagine emotions passing through and refreshing my mind when I see them. Seeing so many waterfalls in this trail gave me a sense of gratitude for where I was in that moment despite everything that was going on. "Enchanted that you're around, and I'm grateful to be alive" was the first seed of this song that came to me that day. Some videos of that exact day are in this. More music thoughts: Our music has a mixture of synthesizers/electronic, video game inspired sounds, with acoustic/natural sounds such as vocals and guitar. Video games and nature go so well together, both in lifestyle and music vibes. Ironically, video games got me into hiking because I wanted to see beautiful places like that places I ran around in while playing WoW. There are callbacks to our song "Echolocation" within this song, as well as "Midnight Clover". I used the Echolocation synth in this song towards the end, and there are audio/visual references to both songs. Leitmotifs, aka melody easter eggs, are my fave. Visually, the water trench we're in front of represents the false sea or "glycerin tears", and it gradually turns into waterfalls, and finally the ocean. The waters in this music video represents all bodies of water leading to the ocean, and endless opportunity. :) Thanks for reading about this song and video! Come to our twitch stream to see us perform our entire catalog of VGM covers plus new ones, and all our originals. It's a lively place and we're there 4 days a week! See you soon. Lyrics - Drift in an artificial sea Moonlight awaits another scene Glycerin tears surrounding me Filling this sphere, a salty plea How'd you even see me here? How long, since when, Have I ever been this clear? I've tried reaching the outside But when I get to the end, it starts again Enchanted that you’re around And I'm grateful to be alive It’s fateful that you and I arrived Stargaze in our eyes, arise Sapphire night Were you alone in that snowglobe? No shelter in a lasting storm The forceful hand that shook you, I Cut off at the strand And never to reach again And never to reach again I sealed it up in a shell Submerged it down Enchanted that you’re around And I'm grateful to be alive It’s fateful that you and I arrived Stargaze in our eyes, arise Sapphire night As midnight arose we broke the glass That which had encased us at long last Reuniting with the endless sea I can finally swim, now we're spinning As midnight arose we broke the glass That which had encased us at long last Reuniting with the endless sea I can finally swim, now we're spinning
