Ch 65 of The Discoverers by Boorstin. (Sorry for the interruptions - was trying to keep an eye on our new puppy.) Anyway, clearly, Boorstin was head of our nation's Library of Congress. He has done massive research about the evolution of books - and it all seems to be in this chapter! P.S. If you are ever in Washington DC, don't miss a visit to the Library of Congress. The building and the art inside are so beautiful.
