He first made his name in the 1990s as one half of Force & Styles, writing genre-defining anthems like Heart of Gold and Paradise & Dreams, before moving into a more trance-influenced sound as Styles & Breeze in the early 2000s. He also co-founded the hugely influential Clubland X-Treme Hardcore compilation series alongside Hixxy. Save Me was released on All Around the World on 19 March 2007 — his first single under the Darren Styles name and a lead single from his debut solo album Skydivin'. Written, produced and sung by Styles himself, it is a euphoric slice of UK hardcore built on a soaring vocal and the unmistakable “cause I want you to save me” hook. It reached number 70 on the UK Singles Chart and number 11 on the UK Dance Chart, and was later certified Silver by the BPI. Skydivin' went on to debut at number 4 on the UK Albums Chart in 2008 and earned a Gold certification. The music video, filmed in Spain, plays on the track's title and the skydiving theme: using high wires, it shows Darren leaping from the top of a tall building.
