From the home of the Tigers since 2000, Kame Park here in the Motor City Inner League Baseball on MLB the show with my partner Chris Singleton. I'm John Shami. Biggest story in this one is just how dominant his pitching has been. Singi, he's been in complete control in recent starts. So much confidence on the bump, painting corners, changing speeds. He's been an absolute nightmare for wouldbe hitters. >> First pitch coming your way next. [music] >> And starting this one, Drew Anderson. What do you have on him, Chris? >> Well, they're going with the opener in this one. So, this is an interesting look. He's probably only going to pitch an inning, maybe two at the most. And it's going to be unconventional. I think he's going to pitch backwards, more off speed, and then fast balls. >> Well, it is a very interesting day for us, isn't it? Uh Drew Anderson is on the mound. Uh after pitching multiple innings in our last time out in the finale against the Rays, >> he's got to face the Dodgers. So, that isn't uh that ideal, now is it? >> But Drew has been really good um in opening appearances as of late. Enough about Otani. >> Difference of course being to see show Otani here today. >> They'll induce a ground ball Torres. >> We'll throw him out. Take a look at the Dodgers lineup. They did go rogue today. Kyle Tucker bets second. Mooky bets third. And uh Ben Rod is also in the game when he should not be taking during batted on what he's doing on that task at hand. >> Now will be Kyle Tucker. Somebody that I don't uh >> don't have a lot of success against Kyle Tucker. Especially last time we saw him in Mudcat >> in the World Series. Kyle Tucker was destroyed here in Detroit. Good one from Drew. >> So, all we're trying to do is get Drew Anderson through um one inning, which could be a problem because again, we don't have Well, we do have Tyler Kinley. That doesn't help us out a lot. I don't know why Tyler's in the rotation. Uh but we have Tyler K. We'll be a little hurt after today, but we'll see what uh what we can do. There's a one. >> Oh boy. >> That's a problem. Deep drive right center. Kyle Tucker has hurt me again. >> Oh wow. He's going for third. I didn't expect that. >> I don't know if we would have had a play anyway, but Kyle Tucker in with a first inning triple. And there's that stupidity dance the Dodgers do. move to that triple by any means. >> One downer. >> Slider chop. Wow. >> It's so nice to have the actual stream deck now. My phone is not uh totally uh in use the entire time. >> Change up elevated but in for a >> strike title ages ago >> for Mooki Betts >> and that's in there. Strike three. Tell you what, couple of the >> couple of the pitches were not in great locations here. Did we get a a favorable call? I don't know. That's pretty close. See just how wide it was. And well, we got a break, but it wasn't it wasn't by much. So, two away for Maxie. Swing a miss on that fast time. >> Oh, no. Oh, Chelsea. Oh, >> just missed with that breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or strike instead >> got the outer edge. >> Drew Anderson a pitch away from getting out of it >> and he will. It's chopped to Torqulson. And despite >> the tripleig, >> the Dodgers are held scoreless and TKO >> take the mound in Dodger blue. >> We go to the bottom of the first and today's starter TKO having a pretty ridiculous season so far. Sing. Yeah, you see there with the sub two erra, very dependable guy and he's been pretty much lights out so far this season. So, you know, when a guy like this takes the mound, I'm expected to watch him. >> Well, here [clears throat] we go. >> This is going to be tough. >> Derek Scoo >> has only been gone around about a month. >> Actually, a little under a month given that the trade deadline was in very early August. swinging a miss. Well, I don't remember if I said it in the menu or or in the game, but if anyone comes across this on YouTube, facing Teroo is uh not exactly something I've done uh much of ever. So, this is going to be interesting. >> A lot of change ups early on to Glaver Torres. I thought that's been the bit. I've seen a little bit of that lately cuz she had to relinquish the title and then she was uh Aldis was like you can have it back but you got to be clear in like 30 days or something so I don't care if you need to get a mass. So I think that's where we're >> and there's the fast after a bunch of change ups. Scoo just pounds one pastigual >> I certainly would have liked to have a better lineup. to face our former ace with >> maybe Dylan Dingler can get something done today, but he might be >> one of the only pitches and when he gets the one that he wants, he doesn't miss it. It goes a long way. >> Change up heavy first inning. >> Terving up lineups. >> Some pitchers can go out there and rip off a month or two of incredible starts. >> Start of the year looks like The perfect game on opening day with >> Terry to watch >> all time channel moment. Okay, I don't care. >> Scoo will always be our first no hitter. Our first perfect game >> strike >> of any sort >> and sinker down. So two and two on >> Halioul might have been just low there. >> Oh no. Yep. Good foul. Weren't even that badly timed on it. No idea how we got a piece of that change up. We were way out in front. And the two-2 >> outside three and two. Does he still get to keep the the gold batter in LA even though it's not I mean he's an award winner last year but in the American League so I don't know >> a >> two strikeouts on fast balls for Terubel >> pitching us backwards and it's working so it's two away for Kevin >> McGonagal >> I think he got There's a corner. >> Sure did. Surprised we haven't seen more of that early on for Terry. >> Nasty pitch right [laughter] there. Two strikes. >> Oh, you are kidding me. >> This is how it's going to be today. It's going to be a tough one for this lineup >> that strikes. >> Talk about strikes. My god. >> And Kevin McGonagle's actually turned on this ONE FAIRLY WELL. GOING BACK AT [screaming] THE WALL AND KEVIN McGotle has taken TKO DEEP here in the first inning >> for a one- nothing Tiger lead to give your team the lead. Oh, wouldn't it be something given that we got Ter 9 and0, 10 and0, whatever when we traded him >> now sitting at 12 and0 that we would be the first team to possibly beat him. But of course, there is a lot of work to be done before we can really start talking about that. >> But a pretty strong wind blowing out to right field today. So >> right-hander hitting it the other way. The leftander's pulling it. >> Might have a pretty successful day if they can do that. Like he is right now. It's really fun to watch him. >> Eric has always been kind of susceptible to getting touched up by the long >> ball. Nope. >> Not usually on things like that though. It's confidence in his stuff where it can just in his own head and he's right for thinking this cuz most often he can do it but he's trying to blow people away. His stuff's better than yours. >> And that one came right back to him. >> And a pair of two out hits here. >> Good start for him to talk about your first bat. Dylan Dingler with a single and now >> Valencia for the potential >> that change up, >> you know, despite how good it is, got good action. >> Um, man, he's leaving it in some hitable spots. >> Now, Eduardo Valencia, >> Eduardo Valencia, going to turn into a long inning potentially for Terren already. 21 pitches. Did come in fully rested though. And if the Dodgers use him anywhere like I would use him, if he's having enough success, he can go 90 to 100 pitches. >> The fast at the bottom of the zone can be very effective. Just got to keep it on the corners. >> Scuba was a strike away from getting out of this inning. >> The McGonagle homer >> and that will be a strike. Good challenge here coming from an ABS challenge coming from behind the dish. It just shaved the zone. So they still got >> that basketball command again. >> He has been outstanding with that already. >> See, >> however, Kevin McGonagle >> gets it just enough of one to drive it over the right field wall. One to nothing Tigers after one. Back here in Detroit and at the plate for the Dodgers Oscar Hernandez. >> Well, meanwhile caught up [clears throat] in TK Scubble returning to the Kame Park mound and Drew Anderson getting out of a tough first inning. I forgot to get anybody up in the pen, so we're going to have to do that right now. I guess we'll start with uh Tannery and then do want to get Tyler Kinley involved here today. Be his Tigers debut. >> Close but one looked like a strike to me. And here comes the challenge. >> Apparently Drew Anderson can do this too. >> Not just Teroo. I really should call a mound visit >> for Drew. >> Oh no, we got Woody Keller tomorrow. >> Yeah, call that mound visit cuz Drew is just about out of it. >> Maybe just don't give him a fast ball. See if that works. Not if you throw it there. That's no good either. getting to the point that we might have to. >> Good change up. That's a bullet by Tay Oscar Hernandez. >> So, a long battle up against Drew Anderson. So, I think we're going to be okay to take him out now. >> When it's hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. >> See if Tanner Rainy is ready. and he is. So, Tannery will come on here in inning number two. >> Hinch heading towards the mound and we're going to see a pitching change right here. Drew Anderson won't go any further and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We'll be back in a minute. >> Tanner Rainey will take over here. Heather Brady. >> Well, when Tanner Rainey has been good for us, he has been good. When he has been bad, he has been bad. This could be two here. Good play by Lee. Throw to first. Double play. One pitch >> to get Freeman to ground into the double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. >> I don't think I watched SummerSlam either, >> come to think of it. Maybe like the last I think I watched the main event of >> nightm for whatever reason when I was going through the Dodgers uh roster, Tommy Edmond was in Triple A. So, I'm not really sure what that was about. That's a ball >> outside two. >> H >> and just get a slice. >> Foul ball. >> I did not want to throw that pitch. I'll tell you tell you that. >> Two downs that one and it remains two and two. Damn. You know, I will say, >> you know, the the aura of the Dodgers and how scary it is when you have to face them because they're just talentwise so much better than everybody else. Um, >> you know, it's it's really not >> a full strength Dodgers team. They're missing a good bit. And Tanner Rainey comes on, does the job. something. [singing] >> Back at Park ready to go for the last half of the inning number 53 now. >> Well, it's the match up you've all been waiting for. Ben Maljerry versus Carrick Scubble. >> Grumb ball off the glove. That will be ruled. A foul ball. Contact over there. Maxine foul ground. >> Swings through it. >> Oh man, >> I think he was trying to miss by that. >> Now into inning number two for Trick. Still kind of pitching us backwards. And I mean it's not really a surprise in in theory. That's what he would do. That change up is his primary. >> I let it go cuz I thought it was the change up. >> Sinker. >> Four strikeouts already for Peric. I mean, we really shouldn't be surprised. This is a devastating sinker. It really is. Hey, I'll tell you what that that I bought, if for those that don't know, I bought his jersey uh post trade off Fanatics for like $35. On the off chance he comes back, that's a really good investment. I feel like it's a good investment anyway. Right. >> That's just like the LeBron jersey. >> Do I need it? Do I like LeBron? No. >> Paints the edges. I'm not sure if you're going to see. >> But will I own the jersey of a future unanimous first ballot hall of famer? >> Yeah. >> I don't know what I'm going to do with it. I have it. >> That is not even thought. >> Wow. That's a tough call for the day. Hey, I'm telling you and I I I don't know if Nike and Fanatics are >> are doing it next year, but given that they did it for the NFL, I would assume that they probably will be. Um, >> I'd say wait for them ones that uh that hopefully they they start stitching MLB jerseys again, like the limited ones, and then all those old ones will go on sale just like the the NFL ones are. AND >> TORQUE. >> OH, COME ON, MOOKIE. You didn't need to do us like that. >> Former Red Sox with a Jeter jump throw to get >> Spencer. >> He had time to set his feet. He is out by a >> mal. This is the type of play that showcases his arm. I mean, he made it look easy, but I promise you that's not a throw every short stop can make, especially with that much behind it. >> Two out space is empty. >> All right, so I've actually had decent luck >> with not only the the baseball uh jerseys. >> Um, but also the NFL jerseys. I haven't had a problem with those. It was just the hockey jersey that I had the problem with and my Almanra St. Brown Lions throwback, but I think that I mean it could have been my fault. I don't know. On the on the Aman Raw on the Almond Raw jersey, I think it was my fault. I think I I think I dried it at a temperature too high. Oh no. And trust me, trust and believe that uh if I if they have an MLB sale, I will I will be aggressive. [laughter] hopefully get a little bit uh a little bit earlier uh a little bit earlier of a jump on them. >> And just because I have it on the stream deck and I said the word have this top of the third >> I've had that sound bite forever but with the limited space on mobile I had to get rid of it. >> Welcome back. Last series, the pitching was not good. As we take a check of the numbers, Well, and they actually just had a similar sale with um players traded at this past deadline, >> but uh I had to work all day and I didn't really get a chance to to look um through all of that during the day, which is how I missed out on the limited ter jersey, even though there's not much of a difference. >> Another look at the strike. It's a challenge. >> Challenges are going wild today. And a good challenge from KK Hernandez, >> who if I had a favorite Dodger, it might just be Kik >> for the MLB one. I actually So, I had a I will say I had a decent heads up about it. I saw it in the morning, but um I didn't really get a chance to to do it >> um until later. But even the NFL one um that had been going on all day. I didn't really start to look at that until the afternoon. So, I probably would have gotten a lot more uh had it uh had I been able to to figure that out in the morning. >> That'll be out of reach of Ben Mjerry. >> That one is foul and he'll see another. I don't know why. And maybe we maybe we uh aren't really. I mean, it's not going to be very noticeable. They're very tiny mini shorter going on, but that's what you get for streaming late on a Friday night. >> Swinging a miss. >> Danny with a strike out of KK Hernandez. >> But we were getting that on Wednesday, too. So maybe it's just uh needing a router reset or something. And that's back. That's through the legs of San Rainy. >> So that will bring up the top of the order with one away. >> Yeah, them being like $35 jerseys does kind of take away from it a little bit. >> Smoked that ball back up the middle. Timing was just perfect. got great wood on it and there was just no chance for the >> I certainly wouldn't buy 20 >> ball strikes. It's really funny that they do that now because they never really used to. At least not that not that I remember. Like it'd be like a year down the road and then you'd start to see those those players kind of go go on clearance >> but it wasn't like >> softly >> like super clearance like like they had been doing. That is trouble >> into the corner. Not great speed over there. Fielded well off the wall. They are sending the runner home. Throw is offline miserably >> from Kevin McGonagle. And we are tied. It is show Otani. >> Nice job of going the other way. >> Yeah, >> I say this is a big series for us. Um, for one, we have a chance to kind of do some damage to to the Dodgers, hurt their postseason chances. They are Oh, boy. >> That one's off the wall. Dodgers get a league. But, uh, >> they are um on the outside looking in in the playoff picture in the National League right now. They were the first team out >> a week or so ago. But he certainly hit it hard enough. Kyle Tucker again. >> He might be on cycle watch like legitimate cycle watch here today. >> Man, we are going to be hurting today. Give me Tyler Kinley and give me Drew >> Summers award winner 33 years old. Can't forget to mention he's a former MVP. >> Strike one to Mookie Betts. >> Bets is batting .282 on the year. Rainey starting to get tired. >> That's low. That's a ball. >> Oh boy. >> Foul ball there. >> Locked out there. >> Two runs across in the inning. We're here in the top half of inning number three. >> Oh jeez. >> Fou again. >> I thought we had that. >> OH, WENT AROUND. BIG strike out of Mooki Betts. Max Muny is 0 for one >> and he'll foul it away. >> We're lucky out here. >> Rainey is about about done. A I had a good feeling about that pitch, too. Nope. That's a ball. >> That magic number on your screen might not be right. That was taken uh that was taken on Wednesday. So, of course, we had yesterday off. I'm not sure if the Twins did. >> Oh, yeah. >> Foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. 31 pitches for Tanner Rainey. >> It'll be more than that. >> And these two are going to >> change up in there. Man, we needed that bat. >> Dodgers score two, take the lead. >> They get two hits, no one left. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It's the Dodgers two and the Tigers one. >> Welcome back as we take a check of the current standings. All my dreams go. >> LA is totally coming back >> and winning the uh National League West, aren't they? >> When this guy's out there on the hill. >> Jav Bayz >> outside Bayz with some impressive production lately. Oh yeah. >> I went to go adjust the microphone and I'm like I really shouldn't swing at this. >> I did. That's a lot. And the count is filled up. Good foul. >> Good foul. Terry to change up down and in on us. >> His 40th pitch of the night. >> Triple digit fast ball. That's strikeout number five. >> I don't remember what our season high in strikeouts was. over the heart of the plate. That was excellent execution on that pitch. >> I feel like there was a 14 strike out there. >> Difference between limited and replica, not not much at all. Not much at all. Uh right now, >> the difference as far as I can tell is that so on the front cuz neither one of them neither one of them are stitched right now by Nike or Fanatics or whoever controls that. Um, no, not really. So, the front the front logo patch on my Scubble replica, I bought one of the replicas cuz I missed out on the limiteds. Um, has the fake stitching. Like, there's actual thread there for no reason other than to look like it's stitched, but it's not. And then on the back, it's still that same uh heat up, whatever they call ironon numbers. We'll just call them what what they are, not use their term. Um the both jerseys have that front and back no matter what. But on the on the replica, the name and number have this fake little white zigzag around the edges. So, it's two different kinds of of fake stitching on the replica. >> The lefty, the one [clears throat] >> really sells the change up with that. >> So, will the limited look better? Yeah, probably. But, um, at the same time, it's not really that much of a difference. >> But on Torres, though, >> I did I I might still buy one of those Adly ones. I don't know why. >> OH, line drive home run GLAVER TORRES FOR THE TIE. >> His 11th of the year and it ties it up. It's 22. >> Oh, is turbocharged out of here. My goodness. >> Yep. Seeing the ball and he's got his timing locked in. He's looking pretty dangerous at the dish right now. knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at was very patient and it paid off. >> Two solo home runs >> off of Teroo. >> I was actually looking at one of the Lars Nbar ones cuz they had those those Cardinals cream jerseys. Um they had the powder blues. They had the regular homes. Um, I was thinking about it, but I I by the time I actually got around to it that none of them were were my size. They were all like 3X >> ball. And then now I probably won't do it cuz I know I'm going to have to dump the money on the um Say what you will about it. Say what you will about it. I know it' be it's different for you, but uh the Lions uh rivalry stuff. So, I know that's coming on Tuesday or whatever. >> Right center field, How You Lee has given Terrick Scuboo and the Dodgers some trouble. >> All the way to the wall. And how you Lee's going to be into third. >> How about it >> with one away here in the third inning? >> Go ahead run. >> Just 90 ft away. Hey, and it's Kevin McGonagal who homered earlier. >> Feel real good about that one. >> Left on left success for Kevin McGonagal is really uncommon this year. We don't hit all that well left on left with Kevin, let alone hitting a home run off the best pitcher in baseball. >> No, that's up. Although I don't I don't know if he's the best pitcher in baseball right now. Still damn good, but >> got it started a little too early. Strike one. Filthy change up right there. Just pulled the string. >> Then that a few It's actually probably close to a month ago now. They were offloading I want to say Ryan McMahon and Yankee jerseys and I definitely thought about those but I got to those two late as well. >> One and two and McGonagal Dylan Dingler do up next gives us a better match up that's for sure. >> See if he can elevate one. Think if he does he'll get the swing and miss >> in the dirt back. Whoa. >> I mean, Lee was never really in danger of getting picked off. He wasn't that far off the bag. I never made a flinch home. So, but still surprised to see him throw over there. [cheering] >> Out side edge. >> Huge strike out there. >> Oh, I hope I don't regret not challenging this, but I do think it >> Oh, yeah. See if the next guy can pick him up. Now here's the Detroit catcher Dylan Dingler one for one with a single so far. >> Oh, I'm sure I'm sure they suck. >> I mean, even the men's jersey suck now, but you know that they they put more effort into those >> meant to hold back on that 0 and one >> on Dingler. He's been one of the best players in the league at driving in his RBI numbers. >> By the end of the year, we'll have at least two >> Tigers that have driven in 100 runs. >> Could very well do the smart thing here and say he'd rather face Eduardo Valencia. >> And that kind of appears it's where we're headed. >> He struck out Valencia. Valencia in the on deck circle hoping that ended the first impact 3-1 >> and Dingler pops it up. >> So the Tigers will stay IN THE GO-AHEHEAD. WHAT THE IS GOING on with this thing? Tigers stay in the go-ahead run on third. >> [music] >> back here in Detroit. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Tay Oscar Hernandez. >> Well, Toss Oscar Hernandez. Tanner Rainey's thrown 33 pitches, so obviously his day is done. Righty, [cheering] lefty, switch hitter. Who's the biggest threat here? either Hernandez or Edmmond. So really, I think I better go with the lefty here. I I think I'm going to throw in Drew Summers. >> So the Tigers get a new arm from the pen. Number 51. >> And that's not where you want to be at all. So >> maybe we'll regret this, maybe we won't. >> Drew Summer, strike one. Well, if you want the normal actual um jersey that the players do mostly wear, you got to buy an elite for that. And those are like $500. >> WHAT [screaming] THE >> OUT OF HERE. >> Tayscar Hernandez hits one out. His 23rd of the year. And the Dodgers have the lead. It's 32. >> The one thing the pitcher didn't want to happen just happened. That's not an easy one to stomach. That's as big as it gets right there. You take advantage of a mistake. That is an ultimate. Here it is. Watch it. I'm going to jog around the bases. True. True that. Oh boy. I mean linked a little bit over the the middle of the middle of the plate. high. But I mean really in terms of a missing location that's not that bad is just ready for it and the numbers back that up. >> In for a strike on Freddy Freeman 85% of the pitches that they're swinging at. It's pretty special. Not so good if you're out there on the mound. >> Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. Top half of inning number four way inside. Hell, I' I'd be impressed if we're able to win a game against LA. Really? Now, granted, if you remember back to opening day 2025, that was when we played the Dodgers to start the year. And that was also in the the monitor switch era. I had switched from the 720p TV that I was gaming on for stream. to >> an actual monitor with actual frame rate and it was with me. >> So, we lost like our first five games that year, but >> yeah, we got we got killed by the Dodgers. Started scoop on opening day and uh it all went sideways. >> Tommy Edund with one out. >> That's shot foul. Why? You know, I think we need to to start asking the question, why does AJ Hinch hate me? >> And that's through. That might not have even been a strike. >> On the outside part of the plate to Tommy Edmund and he takes it the other way. Second Dodgers hit of the inning. It did clip that outside edge. >> Kik Hernandez to Kik Hernandez. Runner on the move. THROW DOWN FROM DING. [screaming] GOT HIM. >> THERE'S A RARITY. >> Good job getting the pitch to the catcher and the catcher with good >> Tommy Edmond gun. >> One of the best throws I've seen from behind the plate for Dylan Dingler in quite some time. >> One and one. Nobody on >> Slider for strike two. >> Got it by him right there and just ended up in front of the slider and >> stayed patient on a change up. >> And it's a hit for KK. Two out single. >> Makes that throw from Dangler even bigger. >> Swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he's trying to do at this point is help his team win. >> Oh my. >> Swing and a high fly. carrying well off the bat of Rorett. Maljerry is there >> to make the play. Lead off home run in the inning for Tosscar Hernandez. >> Straight away center 462 ft. >> Back here at the ballpark. Let's check out the latest news from around the >> league. You see wide [music] open wide open. >> All right. So, I'm just checking something here. >> So, Kaider Montero got slid back a day. I was thinking for a second we might get bailed out a little bit. We could have used Montero. in the pitch. >> He'll be on the mound tomorrow to score as well. >> Eduardo Valencia for the second time. Skoo at 60 pitches. >> Fights it off. >> 99 fouled back. That one way inside. >> It's only 79 miles an hour, man. We need base. Does it let it hit you >> and misses? It's a strike. >> Change up's doing damage. >> Strike out number seven. >> Seven strikeout for Scooig. >> MJerry, >> one of those seven >> strikeout victims. This will be a first pitch ground up. Pretty scene for >> I don't >> following the torque. >> Two down, nobody on. We're here in the bottom of the fourth. Check swing went around. That's strike one. >> Oh, >> that's a bullet, but it goes foul. >> Change up is pretty consistent in its speed today. 89 miles an hour. A lot. There isn't really a big range on that pitch in in terms of the velocity. 86 to 90. Not a not a huge range at all. >> Got him. That's out number three. >> Tigers are shut down there. They trail it >> 3-2. The moment I stand now, you look real good for my brand. All it took was one step. I'm taking my chance. Call it the moment I dance. I thought you might ask how you do that. >> New inning getting started. And now here's the Dodgers designated hitter, Show Otani. >> Joe Otani to start the inning. >> Two left-handers do up. This could be this could be absolutely devastating. Man, we're going to need somebody along the way to go multiple innings. And I don't know if it's going to be Drew Summers, but we're really going to >> going to have to get just about everything that we can out of everybody that we have, which is certainly going to be a problem for the rest of the week. But >> hopefully we we >> I don't know get some help at some point with a decently long start. >> Wow. >> Bruce Summers strikes out show that slider made him look. That was just nasty. >> Now you got to try and get Kyle Tucker out. Has improved possible today. >> Swinging a ground ball and foul ball. It's so hard to slow yourself down when you see that juicy breaking ball. The most success happens when you try. >> So, he's got arguably the hardest part >> of the cycle done with and that is the triple here today. >> And this one bad jump in left, but >> Kyle Tucker retired for the first time today. up next. >> Don't expect the greatest reactions for strikeouts >> when he's out there in left field. The fast ball from Summers. >> Beautiful. Great start. >> Was not ready for that fast ball. >> That ain't a center. >> Tell you what, one, two, three inning for Drew Summers. That helps out a lot. [cheering] >> Three up, three down that time. Home half of the fifth. Coming up, it's the Dodgers three, Tigers two. >> Back at Kame Park. Bottom of the inning. Max Clark up now for the Tigers. Max Clark go for one. He'll take a ball from Scubble inside. >> Nice runner form for Max. >> And that's the strike. >> Cold night like tonight, last thing you want to do as a hitter is [clears throat] jammed or even off the end. Trying to find that sweet spot on the bat. >> I only justified it because it was good. I talked myself out of >> Adley and and Lars >> Nukear and there's low three and one on Clark behind in the count like this all day. He's in danger of walking his first batter right here and a miss and it's a full countdown. >> Yeah. Possible. >> Crazy thing is I didn't even care if it was one of those 2023. Was that the bad year or was it 2024 was the bad year with the jerseys with the really super small font that sucked. What's crazy is is that Nike and Fanatic still haven't recovered from that. Like they still don't have a lot of players available um that that you would think that they would um in terms of those jerseys. It's it's it's crazy. Like I want a I want a new Tigers Road jersey. You know the Tigers Road jersey I have? 2012 World Series Prince Fielder and a Miggy somewhere. I don't know where it is. Um but that's it. And I can't buy a new one. Like I can maybe like Rally House or Game Day Detroit or something, but >> here's a two. >> OH. OH, [screaming] JAV BAYZ TAKES SCOOBLE DEEP FOR THE LEAD. >> Jav Bayz blasts one out. It's his eighth home run of the year. >> Jav home runs go hard. >> And now I mean are we on the precipice of chasing Teroo here? on the inside. Fast so direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ball. >> It appears Dave Roberts. >> Oh my. >> Trick Scoo's return to Detroit is done. >> And he leaves on the hook for the loss. back with a new arm in a minute. >> Now on the bump, number 63. >> Why make a second appearance, Kyle? Her one game, a third of an inning >> and 100% strikeout rate. >> And what a fall off this is in in skill for the pitcher for the Dodgers. >> Well, these Tigers really impress me with the quality. Scuba will go four innings. >> Allow four runs on the strength of three Tigers home runs. I'd say mission accomplished one. >> And that one's into left field for Glab Torres. >> Tell you what, we've just had some good swings today. >> The pitches that that we've hit out of here. McGonagal's home run. Um, Jav's just now. Those aren't pitches that I generally do all that much with. Hey, that doesn't be, by the way, the Southside jersey for the White Socks. That's that's the Goodwill one that I got for like $7. One of the few good city connects. Obviously, this type of run production isn't exactly sustainable game to game. >> I am mad about the current state of Michigan Wolverines fitteds. >> I don't know if they if what I bought uh back when I went to a concert at Pine Knob. So, I was down in uh I think we were staying in like Auburn Hills or something or at least we we went to the to a mall in Auburn Hills and uh I found this Michigan fitted hat that I've been wearing for the last two years and I'm just looking for one on eBay or anywhere on the internet and I can't find it. I would love to buy another one of those but I can't find one. >> It's a strike out. made pretty quick work of him right there. You look at the sequence, everything down at the knees and below. And some guys are good lowers, but right there, they clearly had a plan to pound that part of the zone and he wasn't able. >> That's my regular block M1, not the skinny M1. I don't think I need a new skinny M1 this year. I did get one kind of late, >> kind of midseason last year. McGonagle and it's one and0. >> So I actually I had to stock up on um snapbacks for this Michigan football season cuz about two years especially for like one of my main teams hats. It's about all I can push it to. But then again, I like that I like that block fitted so much. I might still wear it. I don't know. Yeah, classic logo teams like the Marlins. No outside with a breaking ball. [cheering] >> So, what you're saying is we shouldn't put a letter N or like NSH on Nashville's uh on the Mudcats caps. Gano fouled it straight back >> and a grounder >> and unfortunately for Kevin McGonagle. Whoa, they'll call him safe. Never mind >> at first base. Apparently, my calls on double plays have gone to jinxing other teams. [cheering] You know, I've been meaning to get a Cubs hat because I have that Mark Prior uh jersey and I can never I feel like I can never wear it because I don't have a I don't have a hat that looks good with it. He swings and fouls one off. But then again, during baseball season, it's uh it's a very tough time for me to wear much of anything that isn't Tigers. >> Sold it really well with the arms. >> The Florida Marlins. We need we need the floor tomorrow back >> like full time >> Tigers unbelievably >> chase Derek Scoo after four innings. >> Jav Bayz ends his night >> back here in Detroit. It won't be in time. >> Maxy has 49 speed. I think I was surprised about that when we saw this team uh in the World Series. And now this does become a little bit of a problem. That's a very >> Kinley and Wagus pack doving of a hit. >> The fact that I'm going to probably have to use Jacob Wagus pack today is very very upsetting. >> Um yeah, I I don't think I can let Summers face Hernandez again. >> Would love to help ourselves out, but Drew Summers did go over an inning tonight. New pitcher for the Tigers, Tyler Kinley. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. >> Well, just claimed from the Atlanta Braves, Tyler Kinley. He's actually been on the Tigers roster for a while. safe there. I didn't get a great reaction ON THAT. MAX STOLE A base >> down there. I lost my thought. >> Oh, anyway. No. Yes. Uh, so he was uh he was actually he's been a Tiger for about a week now, but I didn't have him on the team and since, you know, the trade deadline wasn't turned off, uh, I had to release him from the Braves and wait for him to get claimed. >> Her ball. >> Hey, >> talk about a first at bat. >> I don't even know if he's got the right number. pitch before was off. And for and for Major League Baseball, I don't think there's a rule quite like there is with the NFL where it has to be five years before you make a change to your uniform or some like that. >> SWAGING A MISS. TYLER Kinley >> struck out his first two batters wearing the old English D. Now Tommy Edmond. >> This one chopped on the ground but foul. >> That would be nice. That would be very nice. No, that's not >> even though so ever the the the Devil Rays branding that that everyone loves in the throwbacks that they actually go to. Four to three. >> Back here in Detroit. We go bottom six. Edardo. >> So in hindsight, >> were the Tampa Bay Rays that when they were the Devil Rays, the green uniforms, were they all that good? Probably not. Those are my favorites in the Rays um Rays kind of look. Um only because of that like the Carlos Pñena era uh when he first got there and started setting a world on fire over there just cuz I love Carlos Pñena. So >> I have a soft spot in my heart for for those green jerseys even though the font on the front kind of sucks. is up and loosening cranked up as well. >> I don't even think that they're they're flirting with going back to that. I think that's happening. I think that that image that you saw cuz there were like four jerseys with that old like the the '9s Tampa Bay Rays look in varying colors, varying caps, things like that. I think that was more of a fan poll because they are going to do that next year. >> Next offering is foulback. getting feedback on Tigers did that with these alternates. I certainly wasn't asked, but >> Eduardo >> ground ball. This is to Betts. He's been solid today. sends it to the lead. >> Crazy to think that the uh the Rays have been the Rays for almost 20 years now. >> I feel like that was like an 07, maybe an '08 change. Fast ball by Mojerry. >> That's real close. >> Gumball and a base hit for Ben. NOW. >> WELL, HE'S RARELY ON BASE, but Ben Maljerry does have a good bit of speed here. I wonder >> got a good fast ball, but he might not throw one here. So, Maljerry going to be on the move here. Doesn't have great steel, though. Got a good jump. >> Good ball to throw on, but a double clutch and Mjerry's in easily. was not close. >> Well, with that kind of elite army >> stolen base of the year for Ben Mjerry against this dude, maybe more than anything, it prevents teams from just testing him thinking that they can even steal a base. But right here, they successfully move that runner up to scoring position. Good job. Is it weird that I'm almost starting to get nostalgic? And and don't get me wrong, I do not ever want the Lions to go back to them full time, but um the 09 to whatever they were like the 15, like the Calvin Johnson era jerseys, >> I would like to see an alternate of that. Like if we if ever we do something that isn't silly themed city connect rivalry whatever nonsense I would like to see those come back. Just not able to catch up to that velocity. >> Oh, I never did either. >> No, I I mean cuz then again, you know, I didn't start watching baseball really until like 2005, so I I missed that whole era. >> That's why I was so confused that people were so nostalgic for those jerseys and not um not the ones that that I loved and I missed cuz I didn't know. I didn't even know they existed. >> Grumb ball from Torlson >> on first. >> Well, there's a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball sleeveless jerseys. The Rockies Devil Rays. I think the Angels had some foul. >> Fouled away by Max Clark. >> Single and stolen base for Ben Mjerry. >> Royals. So, >> inning stays or inning ends where it started. 4-3 >> Tigers. >> Top of inning number seven. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Enrique Hernandez. Hernandez. I was glad that the Tigers never got in on that. But then again, how long did it take us to get uh >> to get alternate jerseys of any sort? >> Maybe not counting the City Connects. Well, it took until 2026. >> Not counting those ones with the Tiger coming through the D logo that they wore like one time in the 90s. This one shots. >> Torque is going to have to throw that to Kinley for the first down of the seventh inning. >> Yeah. You know, it's really funny. So, I've seen Michigan uh Michigan football has been putting out Did the Blue Jays have a sleeve list? I don't If they did, it was their early 2000s. public. It's I don't think it was their their like blue, black, silver era. I don't think it was during that. Um but no, Michigan football's been doing these questions. It's like questions out of a hungry How's pizza box or something. And um >> multiple times I've heard players answer the question like what or what fad would you bring back or something and people keep saying the Nike Elite socks, the high socks with the weird stupid striping on them. It's like oh no. >> Those were never good. >> Tigers holding on to a one-run lead of inning number >> Marlins. I'm trying to picture that in my head. I don't remember that. >> The Reds I remember >> Kinley getting tired after the 16 pitches, but then again, he did come in not fully wristed. >> There's a strike. >> Oh, strike. Teal sleeves. Did they really? I DO NOT RECALL THIS. You're going to get pitch clocked probably. >> Spoils a two strike pitch and he'll see another. >> Oh yeah, I see Dantrell Willis. Oh wait, sleeveless jerseys for one game in 2007. >> Curve ball that misses two and two. Pirates. Yes, that one I definitely remember. And oh, we're going to get an out of it. >> Probably going to have to do it for Tyler Kinley. >> Yeah, the Rangers were those they just had the tea on the front. >> It doesn't matter how many plays you make. >> Oh, wait. No, I do see like 90s era with teal sleeves. I see Dantro Willis in those jerseys in 2007 with black sleeves. Well, I'm going to see if Kimley can get pushed to get past Otani here. That is not a ball. >> Didn't miss too much, but it'll stay A BALL. >> YES, IT IS. >> One challenge remaining [laughter] for them now. >> Yes, it is. and a chopper. Oh my goodness, Tyler Kinley. >> We head to the bottom of the seventh. >> And the Tigers still hold on to that 4-3 lead. The score exactly where it was when TKO left the game. Now >> on the mound now, Brock Stewart, >> he doesn't get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers, so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They'll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. >> Bayz digs in right side. Can't forget the two-run shot he launched out of here in the fifth. Yeah, one of the biggest swings of the game as he looks to make even more of an impact in this bat right here. >> All right, Jav. >> What is this? I do remember those. I think they were in one of the one of the games I played as a kid. The red vests for the pirates. I actually kind of like the red look when the pirates mix that in. Um, they don't really do it a whole lot anymore, but I know O'Neal Cruz would wear like red accents on his gear and it reminded me of that. It I thought it was really cool. The the silver and black or whatever you want to call or not silver and black, the the black and gold of Pittsburgh um is is a is a great classic look. I don't know that pop of red kind of hits with that. >> Now you're ground ball. Great jump from Tommy Edmond. >> First of all, that's just a nice job to even get to that ball. And then even more impressive was the throw off balance. Had to try to in the air, get his shoulders turned and make a strong throw. >> We do have a busy weekend coming up. We got a Glaver Torres throwback >> throwback. Tell >> what's on my mind throwback races next weekend. And I was going to bring that up. Indeed, it was a rocket. Just launched that thing. His swing, man, is so clean right now. I doubt he even felt the baseball make contact with the bat. >> Oh, so a busy weekend. We've got uh game two of this series tomorrow. Um in between that, I was going to do uh building the Jets um our our latest NFL draft. I might move Jets to next week sometime, maybe Monday, and then we'll squeeze the Vermont game that was scheduled for tonight to end uh our first regular season um in there sometime tomorrow. >> That's a little high. >> Ball one. >> I'm just I'm not in that mode yet just because Michigan doesn't play this week. I mean, it is meaningful football. >> Yeah, there's a whole hell of a lot of teams playing week zero. Who would have ever thought, huh? How long until week zero is week one? I mean, you could say it already is, but like officially week one >> chopper for Glaver. Sliding plays >> and that's a great play for the just so impressed with the movement on that play. Footwork was excellent. Arm strength was there and of course the most important part was getting the out. might as well. Um, we got Waggas Pack up. That is not what we want to see. I know we got two lefties do up in the inning. So, actually, I'm going to sit down Waggas Pack. I don't think we're going to want to bring him in today. We'll warm up Tyler Holton instead. Uh, Michigan opens their season against Western Michigan uh next Saturday. Remember this is the game that uh was floated around to be played in Germany. >> Nobody on >> like legitimately Michigan Athletics was looking at it and then they said yeah not going to give up not going to give up the game at the big house >> and a center. It's a bullet from how you leave but it's an out >> and that is that. >> We head to the eighth inning. >> Tigers still lead by a run. >> We look ahead to inning number eight. Tigers four and the Dodgers three. This is Tigers baseball on the show Great Lakes. >> Back in Kame Park. >> We're in the top of the eighth. Kyle Tucker steps to the plate for the Dodgers. >> Well, on the bright side, we are no longer on Kyle Tucker psycho watch, >> but we do have a one-run lead and we would like to get him out. Um, we might be opening oursel up to some struggles here with Mookie Betts, but Tyler Holton, probably our best reliever out of the bullpen this year, is going to come on. >> New pitcher for the Tigers, Tyler. >> Well, he's a big time strikeout guy out there this season, averaging more than one per inning. >> Even Tyler Holton got touched up by the Tampa Bay Rays. That is how good the Rays were against us. You can tell he's still a little bit rattled. You know, for a while there, Holton was always coming in with that confidence. Had the big meter right to start out. And here we go. >> This is why it is so important to continue to pitch well >> because when you get a guy that >> is coming off a bad outing, and in fact, Tyler Holton's coming off two even though none of them were really his fault. Um, >> you know, this is this is kind of the result. >> That's a bouncer and it's through. >> Oh boy. >> Here comes LA. >> Why is it always the Seeing Eye singles. >> Not even the Seeing Eye singles, but the weekly hit singles. >> Maxish. Max >> Muny alone ball one. >> I don't even know what Michigan does technically. >> That's a ball. Tried the sweeper. >> Could be some action here on this next >> even though we all know it'll be Bryce. >> Probably a challenge pitch coming. >> It's fouled off. It goes off of Ding. really need this to be a strike and it won't be well >> once he bails us out >> and that'll give us some HOPE HERE. >> GOT HIM on the inside edge. Oh yes. >> Says, "Give me that ball back. Let's get back to it." >> Not our best by any means. Always want to aim that cutter up and into these lefties. But middle in apparently works just fine. >> It's been a nice night for Teayer Hernandez. He's out in front of the first pitch sweeper. >> Two on one out. >> In for a strike. >> Well, if he's going to do something special right here, it's going to have to happen with two strikes. >> Oh, >> stays alive. >> I didn't throw that that bad. >> Just missed. If he's able to connect on that, look out. >> Change up. This is Chopped. This is going to be a real TOUGH TURN FOR TWO. WE GOT THE LEAD RUNNER. Not the lead runner, but we got the out at second. >> I thought that was a more guaranteed out >> situation. And here comes one of the best hitters in these spots. >> Then going to first there, >> Freddy Freeman. >> Tying run on third. >> But foul down the left side. lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first tried to attack with the sweeper. >> Oh, that was trouble. That was a bad sinker. But Tyler Holton's going to get out of the inning. >> The Tigers will lead as we head to the ninth. But by how much? inning number eight straight ahead and the Dodgers leading up the short Stewart remains in the game for LA. And unfortunately for me, Kenley Jansen will warm up the off chance we absolutely go off. I suppose I'll warm up Waggas pack. Saving Finnegan might be might be good tomorrow. Especially if Kaider Montero, if he truly starts this game, game two against LA. If he goes deep, we're going to be all right. The one bounced to third and that one handled. >> Did you finally did you finally lay eyes on the video? >> Um that >> may have included a player named Antoine Cornbread Adams. >> Illan Dingler just one for three. That's the ball. >> This could be some unfortunate irony in a way because when Terrick Scooble came off the IIL, um what at the start of June, some sometime in June, um his first couple starts should have been wins. And the reason they were not wins was because Kenley Jansen blew saves. The >> Detroit Tigers are looking to give Terrick Skoo his first loss of 2026. >> And it will be Kenley Jansen that will come on for the save to try and give it to him. fought off foul. >> The two is high. >> Three and one on Dingler. >> DH spot in Valencia do up next. We could bring on Colt Keith. >> Yeah, that's a walk to Dingler. I think we're going to do exactly that. might depend on what the Dodgers want to do here. This man, that Manning will be in college. And then by the time that Marshall Manning is in the NFL, assuming he is. Um, then we'll have Charlie Manning. >> Here comes the one. >> Oh, I'm so lucky I held back on that. I do believe Torque is our leader in double plays this year. 19. >> That one hard the other way, >> but still not threatening that near record. We almost set with Glaver Torres a year ago. That's a strike in closer. >> Like Fanatics was always around. I actually always would kind of look away from them. >> You know, I really didn't, you know, buy anything from them. And then all of a sudden, they were everything you had. >> Well, and now our only hope to avoid extra innings is to walk off the Dodgers.
