No, just kidding. >> I don't know. >> I have no idea what we're in for. I I have a sense of of an inkling of like uh the tone and some of the material it it covers so to speak in terms of mature the mature themes if that makes any sense. >> You tell Jean >> but that's all Jeopard. Let's jump into Bridgetton. >> All right. >> Roven a square 1813. >> Dearest reader, the time has come to place our best. The way we're entering into this does not feel like a grown-up show. >> No, >> it feels like a show that would be on BBC and something you could watch with your family, >> right? >> Hoisted upon the marriage market like sorrowful sour by their tasteless tighter tackless mamar tighter. >> Far better odds might exist in the household of the widowed Vic Countis Bridgetton. Hm. >> A shockingly prolific family noted for its bounty of perfectly handsome sons and perfectly beautiful daughters. >> Perfectly. Perfectly. Yes. >> Is their sister still not ready? >> Oh, she's only been reading herself the entire night. I mean, her entire life. >> H. >> She likes me much better than you because you said that. Everyone says that. >> Dany. [screaming] >> Oh my god. That's one way to do it. I'll get her. >> SHORTCUT. >> YOU MUST MAKE [screaming] HASTE. [laughter] >> Make haste. Should you think she heard me? >> I'm going to try to remember that phrase. You must make haste. >> Stop it. >> Be a thing to scream at your kids all the time. >> Yeah, right. >> Like, what the hell are you talking about? >> She was in Dairy Girls. That show I was telling you about. >> Yeah, the show I want you to watch. >> I loved Dairy Girls, man. It was such a fun show. Yeah. Not It's not like this at all. Okay. >> Yeah. Totally different vibe. She's pretty. >> Should your brother wish to be obeyed as Lord Bridgeten, he must act as Lord Bridgeten. >> Where is he? Benedict. >> I do not know. >> Oh. Oh, >> there he is. >> The guy's got priorities. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> He's checked in his pocket. >> Wow. Out in the open. >> Oh, man. >> Anthony, you're here. >> Of course I'm here, sister. I'll never miss such an important day for you. >> No, you would just be late for it. >> He had good reason. He was trying to make haste. For today is the day London's marriageminded misses are presented to her majesty the queen. >> Oh, >> Miss Prudence Featherington. >> Miss Philippa Featherington and Miss Penelopey Featherington. >> All presented by their mother, the right honorable Lady Featherington >> with the feathers on their head. >> Right. No less. >> See if we can slide through here. >> I'm stuck on the first name. Prudence Featherington. >> It's a mouthful. >> It is only the queen's eye that matters today. >> Jeez. >> A glimmer of displeasure. >> Oh my god. Fainted. >> Young lady's value plummets. >> That's entertaining. That corset is tight. >> She like twitched. [laughter] Miss Daphne Bridgetton. >> My gosh. >> Presented by her mother. >> She looks like a princess. >> Yeah, she's beautiful. >> Those [snorts] dogs are cute. >> I know. So, what's the point of this? I'm not sure. >> I guess it's just a presentation ceremony, >> I guess. So, >> flawless, my dear. >> H. She is quite fair. As we know, the brighter a lady shines, the faster she may burn. >> Oh boy. Like a star. Mhm. >> My name is Lady Whistled Down. >> Whistle down. >> Be forewarned, dear Rita. I certainly know you. >> Well, she's the gossip of the town. >> Interesting. >> Absolutely. Sparkle, sister. >> Come now. I nearly sed and minced in a pretty dress like everyone else. >> Hash need to go and visit with Penelope. That presentation was anything but what was it the queen called you again? Flawless. >> That girl has the face of a 12-year-old and the voice of a 40year-old. [laughter] >> My success on the marriage mod influences all of your prospects. We will all need to find love one day. >> So put together. >> Yeah. >> I really hope I'm able to continue such a grand tradition. Your dresses have arrived. >> She's so prim and proper. >> Yes. Now the countest of Fulton apparently spent the last year living in a cottage hundreds of miles away from her earl. She is miserable. >> Says [snorts] it all here. Oh, >> she knows everything. >> This one lists subjects by name in full. >> Let me see. >> That's good reading. That's That's not good, is it? >> She loves the fact that we've been named alphabetically oldest to youngest. >> Your father and I found it orderly. >> Lady whispality. The papers were distributed across town. >> Well, [snorts] at least she has one thing, right? >> Okay. She has named Daphne as the season's incomparable. She calls you a diamond of the first water. How lovely. >> Oh well. As long as it's good news, it's okay. >> Yeah, let's keep it that way. >> It's all well and good until it turns on you. >> Mhm. >> Daphne has bloomed exquisitly, and the sooner she is taken from the market, the better for the other young ladies. >> That's true. >> Even ones prone to hysterics in front of the queen. >> God, that's not nice. >> Wonder who she's talking about. And Penel, if you put down that book at once, you shall confuse your thoughts. [laughter] >> What? >> Don't confuse your thoughts with reading. >> Joining you for the entire season. >> And she just continues. >> Uhhuh. >> Lord Featherington has >> directed me to take her in charity. >> Oh my gosh. >> Precisely what this new rumor monger should have published instead of erroneously specifying that I shall only have three young ladies under my care this year. >> To have only three young ladies under your care? >> Penelope is quite nervous. This shall be her very first season. >> I am not nervous, woman. >> What she is is two stone heavier than she ought to be. >> Oh, that's not nice at all. >> Well, perhaps an arsenic and lead might help. >> Should you allow me to delay only a year, just as Lady Bridgetton has done for Eloise, I may remain dedicated to my studies. Perhaps. >> The answer is no, Penelopey. >> She wants to study. >> Lord Featherington's cousin has arrived. Madam, >> the costumes in the show. Like, this is a really expensive show. >> Yeah, and the set design, too. Beautiful. >> Good afternoon, Lady Featherington. >> Plenty of competition. >> He's slick. >> Yeah, look at that. >> The perfect amount of like stubble. >> Yeah, [laughter] meticulously groomed. >> You must excuse the disorderliness. As you know, I'm to host a ball this evening. >> We have a lot of characters there throwing at us. getting him out there. >> Vulgar Mars, discover that there is an eligible duke present at tonight's fet. >> It's a duke. >> Only return to London to deal with my late father's affairs. I'm afraid it leaves you no time to socialize. And so, whilst I appreciate your most gracious invitation, Lady Danbury, >> I got to get out of here. Yeah. >> Your regrets are denied. >> Denied. >> I suppose a brief appearance. >> Excellent. [laughter] You may need that. >> Good enough for me. >> You carry at home. Give him an inch to take a mile, dude. >> Uh-huh. >> Brief. Gosh. >> Oh, he sees his next victim. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> Ah, you had that reversed. >> Someone may hear us, my >> louder. >> Yeah, right. >> Make as much noise as possible. >> He obviously cares. >> He is a walking STD. He's like [laughter] he's just blinking everybody. >> It's why they didn't live that long back then. I guess >> I shall seize that watch and take it apart. >> It's a nice watch. >> Stay with me today. >> I got places to go. >> I'm afraid I cannot. >> He's got to find his next victim. [laughter] I'm done. Got to get out of here. >> What might they be like? >> These grand affairs your sister must attend. Every eligible lady at breeding dressed in some lavishly trimmed frog. Bloodthirsty mamal at their sides. >> We're going to start doing the mutton chops. [laughter] >> Yeah, I think so. >> I think girls are into that. >> It's back. It's time. >> It's working for him. >> Dafany is fortunate. Every woman is not afforded such gallant protection. >> Well, every woman isn't a lady. >> Oh, >> of course not, my lord. >> Oh, jeez. >> Oh. Oh, >> you have me. Mhm. >> protecting you too >> for a few more minutes. >> I will always protect you. >> Oh gosh. I [laughter] This guy's dangerous. >> He's good. >> The season's opening ball at Dandry House is a most highly sought after invitation. For every darling debutant from Park Lane to Region Street will be on display. >> Wow, that's pretty cool. >> That's really pretty. Tonight we shall discover which young ladies might succeed at securing a match, thereby avoiding the dreadful, dismal condition known as the spinster. [laughter] >> Dreadful. >> You may grow them in our very own garden. >> I must show you my watercolors sometime if you desire to see them. >> They're putting in the work. >> Quite proficient on the piano forte. >> Is he actually it? >> Oh gosh. Some of some of them are struggling to get seen. I know it's tough. >> Oh man, >> seems like a lot more girls than men. >> Maybe. >> Oh man, she's part in the waters. >> Everybody notices. >> Yeah, >> she's going to end up becoming the most hated person. >> Look who's >> I can see that. >> I feel like >> Lady Bridgetton. >> I mean, naturally, that would make you jealous. >> Mhm. >> You're standing there hoping someone notices you. >> Yeah, we met at your brother's levy. If I recall, my lord, you had just won your first race at New Market. >> First and only, I believe. >> Throw that thing on there. >> I haven't had the pleasure of seeing you at our club lately, Ambrose. >> She didn't have anything to do with the unpaid balance you left on our betting books. >> Oh, boy. >> Eric, thanks. [ __ ] >> Dang. Right, >> [ __ ] block. [laughter] >> A man of any honor insures his debts of fully pay. >> Okay, he's looking out. >> I did not realize. >> How could you have done it? It is the very reason I'm here, sister. to protect you. I can't have a man like myself meeting you. >> Yeah, right. Anything but me. >> He's rather pleasing. >> He's rather here to shuffle about hunting fortunes. Trust Mr. Lewis knows of your sizable dar. >> No one is good enough. >> Nope. >> I presume you know of him, too. >> Good luck. >> Mr. Wington's second son. We shall find better. He is of dubious parentage. [laughter] >> No one's good enough. >> Hey, man. He's got dubious parentage. Come on. >> You're an eccentric. My words. >> Well, this is a shortcut. >> Didn't want to tell you yet. Found my tour. I'm to begin in Greece. >> Greece? How advent >> I know, right? >> Too late. I already noted you. >> A very good product at the time, I tell you that. >> God, look rather lovely this evening. Is there a reason I've yet to see you on the dance floor? >> All in good time. >> Poor thing. >> She's got a bad case of the [ __ ] block is what's going on, >> man. Really? [laughter] That's why she hasn't been on the floor >> dancing. She might not make it to the floor. >> Miss Marina Thompson, distant cousin of my husband's. She's rather dowdy, is she not? >> Oh, is she going to be she's going to be the other competition? >> Let me guess. >> Yeah, the Bridgetton boys feeling her. >> Your household will be a hive of corners in the morning. >> Mhm. >> Where one suit goes, the rest will surely follow. >> Yeah. Meanwhile, poor girls. >> They're like the rejected Cinderella's stepsister. >> Yeah. >> No, I'm really taking the juke. >> Duh. >> That man's not in our military. [laughter] >> What? >> He's better. Jesus Christ. >> Let me introduce my daughter. >> Oh my god. >> Man, such problems. Yeah, right. >> I just want to hang out. All these women keep throwing themselves at me. Jesus Christ. >> Jeez. Can a guy catch a break? >> I'm quite parched. >> Then I shall fetch you a glass of lemonade. You've already done so much for me tonight. >> Leave. >> I should return in a mere moment. >> Okay. Yeah. Let me get out of here. >> Yeah. She's got to break away from him. >> For real, man. You're not getting anywhere. >> Cramping her style. >> Yeah. >> I'm wondering if the one guy she likes is going to be swept up by the uh distant cousin. >> I wonder if the guy in the red is going to see her over there. >> Small glasses. >> Oh goodness. >> Book. >> No, he's not. >> Tiny little things. >> The glasses. Uh, you need your brother? >> You've always amused me, Miss Bridget. >> Oh my. >> Ever since I was a school boy and you were >> Oh, but >> a baby >> five. [laughter] >> God, no. No. >> Reaper, man. >> Summons me. I >> Uh-huh. Somebody's summoning me. >> I mean, it's Bridgetton. >> Shoot your shot. I guess. >> Yeah, but it's not how he looks, it's how he is. Like, >> it's just creepy. Yeah, he has just kind of a Oh, boom. >> Oh, there it is. >> Mhm. >> Pardon me. >> Forgive me. >> Save me. >> The way he looked at her. >> Mhm. >> Your name, sir? >> Am I honestly to believe you do not already know my name? >> What? >> She really doesn't. >> They go way back. Is that why? >> I think he's well known. >> Bastard. >> Bridget, >> come here. >> Oh my god. Of course, they're old friends. >> Yeah. >> Just taking you on a bass. I shall all >> Hastings. >> Is he good enough? >> Right, Hastings. This is my sister. >> Your sister? >> Oh [ __ ] Uh, >> off to a great start. >> Yeah. Foot in mouth. >> As I am well aware of the company you keep, brother, I'm certain your days grace were most civilized indeed. [laughter] >> Carry on. >> I expect to see you at our club then. >> Indeed. Evening, Bridgetton. >> Miss Bridgetton. >> They're going to end up together. >> Of course. The tension's too high. The most perfect thing for you to do now is not to dance, but to leave them all welting them all. >> Oh my gosh. >> If anyone knows how this works, it is your eldest brother. >> You are so annoying. >> Perhaps he's right. >> Let us go. >> I mean, yeah, you should probably hold out, but >> that's going to you got to that's going to grow old. That novelty is going to wear off. She's going to grow tired of him. >> Yeah. >> Have cook prepare as many biscuits as he can this morning. And perhaps we might move a few extra chairs into the drawing room, too. >> H >> I do wonder which gentleman will be the very first to call. >> Ah, yes. The next day, I guess the suitors come, right? >> She's looking very goldilocky. >> Not expect to see [music] you here this morning. >> It is terribly early for you, dear. >> You could not sleep for some reason. Am I the first gentleman to arrive? >> How wonderful. >> He's had a lot of caffeine. [laughter] >> Yeah. Call us mom. The Earl of Stafford and a Maris of Finn. >> Okay. >> You should have my colorful fashions to plan Thompson. >> No, she's going to steal all the attention. >> Oh man. >> Dearest reader, this author finds >> I like the girl in the middle though. >> Yeah, she's happy for her. >> Curious of news. >> And do you have a large family too? >> Oh, okay. They're showing up. >> Is there a problem, Lord Bridgetton? >> God, >> I should think so. You are in my seat. Oh my god, you are too much, bro. >> Nobody's going to win with >> As such, an even rarer jewel of only the most remarkable brilliance, fire, and luster. >> Jeez. >> Her name unknown to most, yet soon known to all, is Missina. >> All the love, >> man. >> Should you not be out on your daily walk about the square, dear? >> I'm busy. >> It appears as though it may rain. >> Bright, not a cloud. author is left to wonder whether her majesty might reconsider the high praise she once afforded Miss Bridgetton. For we all must know >> that looks like a painting >> queen despises more than anything being wrong. >> Oh, >> and the drawing room at Bridgetton House currently appears to be emptier head of her dearest King George. >> Well, you know why? This guy. Well, >> see, I feel that >> must be up to my club then. >> Sisters, mother. >> Would he actually let anyone have her? >> I don't know. >> The season's true incomparable, living under her own roof. >> Mhm. >> She must be overjoyed. [laughter] >> Is Miss Thompson so high in her instep that she's unable to dawn her own slippers? >> Oh gosh, >> I should think not. >> Oh no, she's becoming the Cinderella now, >> right? Mama, perhaps we might attend the upcoming Salsbury ball by ourselves. >> There you go. >> I believe that Anthony has already >> replied on our behalf. >> Oh god, >> his name's Anthony. >> That figures [laughter] >> a caller for Miss Bridget. >> Oh, okay. >> Lord Burbrook. >> Oh my gosh. Oh no. He just waited. Ah, his like he's perfectly embodying slime. [laughter] >> Some room for his lordship, will you? >> Louise, are you not due for a visit this morning? >> I believe I should like to stay. >> I think she should like to stay, [laughter] >> man. >> I tried to like I'm sorry. >> Mom said, >> "Forgive me for not calling sooner. I presumed your affections were already engaged." H. >> Now I know you and I were destined for each other. >> Oh my lord. [laughter] She can't hold it in. As you eat the cookie. What are you doing? >> She looks terrified. >> By heaven, your love may burn from the depths of my soul. >> In real life, that's the marriage. >> I shall earn. >> You know, [sighs] I'm sure you ended up often with the person you really didn't want to be with. >> Man, most wretched sonnet indeed. >> Lord Byron, he's not [snorts] Do not believe so. Wait, what? >> Wait a minute. Maybe he likes you. >> Maybe. >> Lady Whistled Down has all but declared me ineligible. >> What other should want such damaged goods? Now, >> the speakers of Lady Whistled Down were to be held in higher regard than her majesty the queen herself. >> Give far too much credit to some anonymous scribbler. These musings. >> Well, everybody reads that though. >> They are true because of you. >> Uhhuh. >> I am looking out for you. I am protecting you. >> Stop it then. >> And what are my duty? Everyone's looking. >> What it might feel like to have one's entire life reduced to a single moment. >> This is all I have been raised for. >> Tough time >> is all I am. I have no other value. >> That's not true at all. >> Able to find a husband that I should be worthless. >> Oh. >> Oh, different time, man. >> Well, I guess she sees the value in herself, but it's like societal. >> Yeah, exactly. >> They don't see any other value in her. >> Exactly. >> For the new Duke of Hastings continues to grace our fair city with his presence. And oh, what an impressive presence it is. >> How long is he going to be there? >> It should be noted that the Duke has been overheard announcing to Mamars everywhere that he has no plans of ever marrying. >> Oh, okay. >> No, I do suppose if it were not for an overzealous mother at every corner this time of year in the city. >> Man, this guy dresses well. >> Are you truly not planning on taking your place in society when you have a juke? >> I have a title, as far as I'm concerned, will end with me. >> The Hastings, you stop calling me that. Huh? >> Who's my father's name? Never mind. >> Okay. H some daddy issues. >> You are the firstborn Bridgetton of a firstborn Bridgetton nine times over. Where is your wife? >> He's busy. >> Yeah, he ain't ready. >> I'm in possession of something that you are not >> brothers. >> Okay, that's true. Not my responsibility. >> Bridgetton shall be awarded the year's grand prize when he sweeps Miss Thompson off her pretty little slippered feet. What is he like her? >> I don't know. He's been looking at her quite >> He's been learing. He's a little creepy. >> Uh-huh. >> Will it be just the two of us? >> Yet again. >> Gosh, [laughter] >> this guy is too much. >> You know what though? It makes you kind of hope for her and root for her. [laughter] >> I'm sorry. His face. Yeah, it does. >> Cuz she's like so prim and perfect. It would be annoying if she just got a perfect dude right away. And so by having her have this obstacle and you know you root for her. >> Yeah. Knocked her down a couple notches first. >> You must remember my daughter. Deaf. >> She seems nice. >> She made quite an impression. >> Mhm. >> However fleeting it may have been. >> Oh no. >> Oh no. >> Welcome you both to my box this evening. >> Your brother. >> I insist. >> Well, that's nice. I always like when a girl welcomes me to her box. [laughter] We are saying her husband will not live till the end of the month. >> Truly another rule provided by that vicious scandalmongering writer. >> Wow. >> Oh >> wow. >> Jeez. >> Whistled writes about my family too. And I suppose that you can withstand such scrutiny since he is after all a man. >> He's not what writes. It seems the two of them have that much in common. Matches have certainly been made with far left. Hey, it could happen. >> Lady whistled down writes what she sees. Perhaps we need to help her to see things a bit more clearly. >> Oh, okay. >> The Duke is quite fond of gooseberry pie. The very dish my cook is renowned for. >> Mhm. >> What a coincidence. >> Oh, that laugh almost sounds evil. >> Yeah. Must have been something important. What the heck was it? >> They're trying to scare her off, I guess. >> Probably. >> What should be so terrible about Bloomsbury? >> Well, she does seem to be someone with access. >> Who knows if Whisan is even a she? >> Because she's simply too good to be anyone but a man. >> H. >> So, the writer is Lady Damry. Lady Damry enjoys sharing her insults with society directly. >> Could it be Lady Featherington? >> No. [laughter] >> No way. >> You must forgive this rather unruly debate, your grace. >> Nonsense. I find it entertaining. The one The one with the raspy voice also kind of sounds like Emily Stone. >> I'm trying to think of who Emily Stone is. >> Gregory, would you stop tossing peas at me? >> Those peas are already there. You cannot tell me what to do. I am older. >> And I'm taller. >> Children, >> I'm taller. >> We find ourselves seated beside each other, Miss Bridgetton. >> I'd like to think you're happy about that. >> It would be better if you refrained from thinking about me at all. >> Oh dear gosh. >> How ever is it possible for a lady to offer anything but a smile? M mhm. >> Even one of your reputation. >> You are aware of my reputation. >> I'm aware of your friendship with my eldest brother. >> Okay. Brother looking. >> Yeah, right. >> I wish to refrain from thinking about whom again. >> I assure you I'm anything but interested in you. >> Really? >> The eldest sister of my oldest friend. Yet another recent subject of a certain writer, a chasteed need, >> desperate. >> I shall have you >> to marry. That is tell me I'm wrong. >> [laughter] >> One look. >> You must stay for desserts. Goosebury pie. >> Ah, lovely. >> Uh-huh. His favorite. >> He's feeling uncomfortable. >> Yeah, for sure. >> Good. >> You're a perfectly reasonable mother until your eldest daughter came of age. This matchmaking concocted with Lady Danry. >> He's perceptive, man. I give him that. >> I believe the two of you to be friends. >> We are good friends, which is why I know he has absolutely no intention of marrying. Well, you must understand all men make that assertion. >> That is how so many relationships start. [laughter] >> You would most certainly not have the juke anywhere near Daphne. >> I fully subscribe to the belief that reformed rigs make the very best of us. >> You will not make a >> Do you think he doesn't like d uh women? >> I don't know. >> Are you to return to your bachelor lodgings across the square or will you pay a visit to a certain soprano that you tend to in on the other side of town? >> Oh no. >> Mom knows it all. >> Like to speak of responsibility. My dear son, what should you know of it? >> If your father was still here, Dafany would already have been matched. The man would have made an arrangement with an old friend. >> With a friend? >> You must ask yourself, are you merely an older brother or are you the man of this house? >> Oh, challenge that manhood. >> Oh, he got she got to him. >> Yep. Too overprotective, man. >> I cannot see you anymore. >> Oh, damn. I do not understand. >> She's not the same girl that was at the tree, is she? She looked If she was, she looked totally different. >> You promised to care for me, my lord. And now, what shall I do now? >> Well, I was making a decision. >> You shall leave. >> Oh my damn. >> She didn't do anything wrong. Man, >> there is one thing that humbles even the most highly regarded. >> Once your mom calls you out, >> a scandal. >> A scandal. It should seem that all of Grovenous Square has been left ponder a rather scandalous question indeed. >> Might one former Diamond's recent fall from grace turn out to be the most damning scandal of all. >> Where are we headed? >> I don't know. Taking a boat. >> Wow, what an event. >> I did not know you would be here. >> Sorry to disappoint. >> Have you seen Miss Thompson? >> Oh, >> she is ill. >> Uh-huh. >> Mr. bridge to him. >> Oh gosh. >> I believe you owe me a dance this evening and I have only one more space remaining on my card. How convenient. >> OH NO. COME ON. >> I'M AFRAID I cannot offer you that dance. Miss >> K. Yeah. I'm to escort Miss Featherington. >> Hey. All right. >> Yo, >> nice try, [ __ ] [laughter] >> She tried, man. Oh god. >> Oh, please let this go somewhere. >> Yeah. Hey yo, >> he's so nice. >> Oh, does he have a woman here or he >> has a few? >> You look just like him. >> Or are they just pawning father? >> He's so hates that. >> He hates his father. >> Yeah, right. This >> No one's getting that hint. >> And he doesn't even like do much. Okay, maybe he does like her. >> He's not even doing much to like But his hate just seeps through. Yeah, you can feel it. Yeah. What are we seeing? Blood >> madam. >> It is with great privilege. >> Who is it? >> Spectacle of feast your eyes. >> Is that why the girl was so upset? I think so. >> She was in the bed. Yeah, maybe. >> Wo. Well, you >> wow. That that's like magic back then. I mean, that's even magical today. >> Well, yeah. That's cool. The way it >> Lord Burbick's Barney is over 200 years old. His lineage is legitimate. He's had an excellent education. No debts. >> He's trying to pivot now. >> Yeah. >> To speak strictly, there's nothing wrong with him. >> All right. >> What should any of this >> to marry him? >> Huh? >> Nigel, >> I had to find you a husband, sister. >> Oh my gosh. >> It should be just as easy for you to fall in love with Lord Burbrook. >> I will not hear of this. >> Oh wow. >> Is Lord Burbrook the creepy the creepy one? >> I don't know. That's what I was wondering about. >> There's a lot of names to keep up with. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. A lot of lords and dukes. And >> you haven't bled. >> Oh, >> it's been over a month since you were wrong. [gasps] >> She's pregnant. had no legitimate excuse to dispense with you. >> Oh my gosh. >> When your own papa hears of this, >> you shall never understand someone like you living this ridiculously charmed. Did you think I wanted to come here >> to be around people like you? So out OF TOUCH, SO SUPERIOR. >> OKAY. All right. >> We to drop the honorific so soon. >> Nobody's around, dude. >> As your husband. >> Oh, that was him that he was talking about. >> I will never marry you. Do you think yourself better than me? >> Oh [ __ ] Oh, he's going to rescue her. >> No one wants you, Miss Bridget. >> What are you doing? >> Find out sooner. >> Go with me. >> OH, DAMN. >> SHE'S LIKE, I GOT IT. >> YOUR GRACE, I had no intention of >> knocking the climp flat out. [laughter] >> He needed it. >> What are you doing out here? >> Avoiding certain people. >> People? >> Mothers? >> He's alive. >> And I am alone with two men. >> Oh, the dark walk. I must go. >> Marry me, Miss Bridges. >> Damn, dude. >> Oh, you cannot possibly be thinking of marrying him. >> If I've been able to secure another offer, there may be no alternative. >> Okay, >> I do not mock you. I'm being sincere. >> Your brother. >> I know of what this lady Whistled down has written. She's all issued a challenge to London's most ambitious memoirs, encouraging, provoking them. >> Same you as that prize. H >> perhaps there is an answer to our collective lady whistle down issue. Okay. Pretend to be together. >> I do. You think he's into dudes? >> I don't know. Maybe. Unless he just wants to be single, but he doesn't even seem like he's into girls at all. >> We could pretend to form an attachment. >> Mhm. >> With you on my arm, the world will believe I finally found my duchess. >> The contempt. >> Mother in town. Leave me alone and every suitor will be looking at you. >> What do we tell your brother? >> You presume, Lady Whistler? I presume surely must be precisely what we are. Me unavailable, you desirable. >> Mhm. All right. See how this goes. >> If this is to work, you must appear madly alert. >> Oh my god. They have to kiss. >> Uh-huh. >> You do not wish to marry me and I do not wish to marry you. >> It's the only way it works. >> The fire behind her is crazy. >> Unless you fall in love. Well, it would seem to me that maybe she might catch feelings, but >> they've made zero indication that he has any interest in in the opposite gender. >> Yeah. >> Wow, look at those fireworks. >> Miss Daphne Bridgetton has captured the interest of the newly returned Duke of Hastings. >> Oh, it worked. >> How the young Miss [laughter] is yet to be determined. >> Brother needs a drink. If anyone shall reveal the brother would try toatch >> set her up with the creepiest of creeps. >> Lady whistle down worst >> cuz he's safe. >> I guess I don't know. >> He's not really safe. Maybe he just wants to get it over with and he's like on paper the guy's good. >> Yeah, I suppose. Yeah, like you said on paper like technically he he he ticks off all the boxes but there's something weird going on there with the brother. Like it was almost like he finds that particular individual non-threatening >> whereas the other guys are. It's not quite, but it almost feels like an incestuous thing of you know what I mean? >> Yeah, I understand what you're saying. He's jealous. >> Yeah. >> But not like he wants to be with his sister. It's like just >> I I understand what you're saying. >> Sort of a Scarface thing, you know? It's just like no one can be with my sister. >> Right. Right. >> There are so many characters in this show, dude. I was like, "Okay, I can't remember anybody's name, but I remember their faces and the feelings that those characters give me." And there's lots of dogs. >> Lot of dogs. Uh yeah, this this I mean this show is a setup. I mean, it's setting up all the characters and their situations pretty much. But it is it is intriguing. I am curious to know more about everyone kind of what's going to happen here. >> I can't show this on YouTube, but I want to see [clears throat] the tree bit. Same girl. Oh, it is the same girl. It is the same girl. It's the same girl from the play. Okay, I was wrong. I see. >> But it was just hard to see >> when when when when he was, you know, boinking her >> at the at the tree. It looked totally different from the girl on the stage. And so I was like, "Oh, he's just sleeping around town with everybody." Yeah. He just looked like >> a man W. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> Winner. >> Wo. [laughter] >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Uh Yeah. Yeah. >> But I mean that not that's not far removed from the truth though because he actually does have somebody, right? >> That's what that's my understanding. >> I I I don't think so. I don't think he has anyone. What? I I don't know. I couldn't tell cuz I said affair, but I don't know if it meant affair is like, you know, he has someone else or just love affair like you know. >> I'm afraid to look on Chat GPT because Chad GPT will sometimes explode with spoilers. He might give you a spoiler. >> And so yeah, I'm just >> We'll just fill in here here. Let's just listen to what the mom said because that was the component to the whole thing. Uh where is it? >> When she gave the speech. >> Yeah, >> it's right here. >> Tonight when you leave this study that you continue to keep at your family home, are you to return to your bachelor lodgings? >> Bachelor lodgings. Bachelor lodgings. Okay. I I did not catch that. >> I thought she said something in law. And so I thought she I thought he had somebody I was like, "Oh, they just haven't shown us who this person was." >> Got it. I I I completely didn't know what she's saying there. I guess he just wants to keep it a secret. >> Yeah. Well, because he wouldn't marry her, right? That that lady, he wouldn't he wouldn't >> produce an offspring with her. >> Exactly. And he's expected to. >> Yeah. He's He's expected to produce an offspring with someone of high society. Yeah. >> Which that lady is not, even though that's who he really likes and is into. >> Gotcha. Okay. >> Mhm. >> Now it's Now it's clicking. >> A lot of drama. [laughter] >> Yeah, it's getting there. It's building up. >> There's a lot of drama there. The tone is kind of like you said earlier, it's kind of a fun tone so far. It's not too heavy, >> right? >> We'll see if that continues to be the way it is. I do like the colorblind casting. Kind of enjoy that cuz I like that in um >> uh what's the one with Brandy and Whitney Houston? The Cinderella one. >> Cinderella. Yeah, >> it's literally Yeah. Cinderella. Uh but yeah, I enjoy that. Yeah. No, it's cool. I'm curious to know if since the book is the books are like eight volumes, right? And they're each character. >> Uh yeah, different sisters or something. Different sisters. I I had it somewhere and I lost it. >> Okay, got it. Yeah. I don't know how we're doing if we're just going in like sequential order or how that's working with this, >> right? >> I guess it doesn't matter. >> Um but >> Oh, yeah. >> Emma Stone. Emma Stone. That's why I didn't >> Close enough. >> Okay. Well, yeah. That's why I didn't know who it was, man. >> No, you're right. You're right. >> Uh, yeah, I get I get what you're saying. >> Emma Stones probably was on her birth certificate. >> You're probably right. This is Shandra Rimes. I didn't know that this was one of her shows. Now, I don't watch a lot of her stuff, but I do know that she did uh she does Grey's Anatomy and I think Scandal, which I used to watch that show. Now, that was a good show. This seems quite different from her other stuff. That's remarkable though cuz like this writing the the the way that everyone speaks I think like I don't I mean I don't know anything about her where she grew up anything like that but the dialogue is just like it's that that posh high society speak >> but but there's like sometimes there's like almost a flare or behavior that feels modern and it's like that perfect kind of marriage between the two >> so that you can find it more accessible. Yeah. It's not quite a period piece like um a a story about Queen Elizabeth, >> right? It's doing its own flavor, >> so to speak. And I And I think that's pretty cool as just its own thing, its own world. >> It's a very created world, it seems like, which I like. I'm glad we actually got a year on it, though, you know, just to kind of >> But even like the costumes feel like it's like it's borrowing from history, but it's not historically accurate. >> It looks better [laughter] historically accurate from what I'm >> Yeah. I mean, I have no idea. It's just the colors are so rich. Sometimes I'm like I I have no idea if that's what it looked like, but I don't know, but I feel like it didn't look >> Yeah. >> that cool. I mean, those his jackets are nice. >> The haircuts as well. The haircuts are quite So, but in any case, those are just details. And so, the characters are all interesting from at a cursory glance. They all feel interesting and they all feel distinct. The brother, you you you just got a clear sense of who he is almost immediately. Yeah. Within the first few minutes. And then uh Penelopey Bridgetgerton, played by Nicola Coughlin, the the one from Dairy Girls, who had the drink spilled on her. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Um you know, you have she's she's really good at at whatever that character is. Like >> she is small and I guess spunky and just very likable almost immediately with very little effort, very optimistic. She has a similar character in in Dairy Girls, but it's a a different accent, I suppose. And that's more more modern, but like just her vibe is just fun, like, you know. >> Yeah. I like I like that she was really happy for the the cousin that was in town. You could see it in her face, whereas everyone was looking with kind of disdain, you know. She was kind of >> very happy and encouraged to see her getting so many suitors. >> We also I don't know the name of the cousin, but uh she's pregnant. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I was actually quite impressed. Just like the world building, you know, it's like there's a lot there and it feels it feels like the only word I can describe is it feels lived in, >> you know, or or phrase, not word, but it just like it's its own place and it looks so expensive. >> Between the location and everything, >> it's a big production. >> Yeah, for sure. >> I think the only thing I wish they did, and this is a nerdy thing, I wish that they added some film grain to it. It's clearly shot digitally, but it would have been cool if they added some film grain to give it that old timey look. >> Yeah. >> Just to really put you back there. >> Maybe they wanted Maybe they wanted it to look more contemporary and bright just so that you couldn't can't place it as much. I'm not sure. >> I don't know. But, you know, like sometimes you get stuff like um weird uh uh comparison, but like Schindler's List was in black and white and it really gave you that sense of it being this >> sure. this time film grain just kind of gives it I don't know it gives it something janiqua you know it gives it that thing you know um but that's a that's a very nerdy thing that no one cares about the the way that that whole moment transpired in the garden where the creepy dude >> it was like I was disappointed because disappointed in him >> the the creepy guy cuz I was like well maybe you pull the curtain back and he's actually all right >> you know and and and let's see where that goes for a can't like in Game of Th. You've watched Game of Thrones? >> I I watched the first two seasons I think. >> Okay. So, >> in Game of Thrones often times when they set up a dude who's just like awful. When [snorts] you pull back the curtain, it's another layer of awful >> and then another layer of awful and it just keep it proceeds to get worse. And so with with this, I was like, well, maybe it's not like that. And he pulled back the curtain and he's all right. Yeah. >> And he's like, he's actually a sweet guy underneath. And maybe she finds a way that she'll try to make it work. >> Yeah. >> Awkward meeting. Yeah. >> And then it turns out he's kind of like the worst. >> It's kind of what you expected. >> Yeah. Underneath it all. It's exactly why you should be afraid of the guys eating the cookie in front of her. >> Yeah. Although, I did like the fact that um >> she just clocked him. >> Yeah. I like that. I like that because, you know, it was just a little bit of a misdirection. you see the guy the the Duke coming up and you think right away, oh, okay, this is going to be the moment when he saves her and that, you know, things are going to change. >> And so I I like the fact that, you know, she was able to handle herself. >> Yeah. >> And >> it pulls the rug out from under your feet for sure. >> Yeah, it does. And then I didn't see that coming with them, you know, making that whole that whole plan to kind of pretend to be together. And that just adds a a little more just another level to the plot itself, which I I'm curious to see how that goes. >> Yeah. All right, let's go to the next episode. Let's do it. Something intense is going down. >> Yeah. Is it about the pregnancy? >> Oh, is she having a baby? >> Oh, yeah. Oh, >> dang. That was a quick nine months. >> You must breathe your grace. You must tell me something. >> Who's the daddy? >> I am going in your grace. >> No, please. >> Someone must do that. If not husband, then [screaming] Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. >> That's her dad, I guess. >> I must know if I'm at long last have a son. >> Forceps. >> It's a different person. >> Oh, okay. >> Tell me your grace. >> What is it? >> What is it? >> Damn, dude. Let her >> is a boy your grace. >> Okay. >> What a relief. >> I know. >> Now take care of her. >> I know. It's just like, what is it? What is it? It's just so careless about her state. >> Yeah. >> Oh, she doesn't even get to hold her baby. >> I have a son. >> I have a son. >> I finally get home. >> This is so cruel. >> That's not the same girl, is it? No. [sighs and gasps] >> That's not her. I thought that was the girl from earlier. >> Doctor, I'm going to see too much blood. >> Oh, man. This must be We must be looking at his backstory. The Duke. >> Perfect son. Simon Arthur Henry Facet. >> The next There we go. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Oh, man. At first, I thought I thought we were present day. I thought this was the >> Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha. >> Would you like us to arrange the Duchess's room for you? >> It will not be necessary. >> Well, you can see why he Yeah. He wants to distance himself from his father's reputation. >> Mhm. So basically from his own perspective, he killed his mother. >> There will forever be just two words that come to this author's mind. >> Can you imagine like your birth is why your mom died? >> Yeah, it's that's crazy. >> Are quite shocking and delightful indeed. >> Man, it must be a hot bath. >> It survived your majesty against once emerging Phoenixike. >> Everyone's averting their eyes. Yeah, right. is one Miss Daphne Bridgetton. >> The illustrious debutant was seen dancing not once but twice. >> She's all about that paper. >> Yeah. >> The Duke of Hastings. >> Where are you going? >> Okay. Well, that answers that question. >> Oh, yep. At least halfway. >> Prominard. >> Who's that? >> I don't know, but that answers the question. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. >> The joke rarely smiles. Definitely has an excellent sense of humor. She will need it. Life as a duchess will have many demands. >> Dafany will not merely be in society. She will be leading. >> Well, what that grants us is the opportunity to wonder uh if Daphne and him are going to end up together. >> Exactly. >> So, >> the purpose of this arrangement is to keep the marriage minded of the mothers of the ton of bay, not herself directly into the lion's den. >> I marry my very first season. >> I shall grant you four >> six bills. >> Five. And you must send flowers today. >> Jeez, >> expensive ones. >> If you were truly courting me, you'd buy out every florist in town. >> I would not need flowers. Only 5 minutes alone with you in a drawing room. >> Oh, wa. Just 5 minutes. I know, right? [laughter] In and out. >> Ah, yes. How is your hand this morning? You say you did nothing wrong. >> You know that even a rumor of my being alone with a man, let alone touching him, >> he deserves telling anybody either. nervous in causing a scandal this time. >> You should imagine with you it comes naturally. >> Uh I mean they get along. They seem to be more fond of each other than they were. >> Well, they're certainly getting to know each other. They're spending lots of time together, >> right? >> Only natural that some kind of attraction might blossom. >> Penelopey is wondering about Miss Thompson. >> It of Miss Thompson. >> Penelope has inquiries. >> Do not fall silent. >> I beg your pardon. >> I know. >> Oh. >> Well, how did it happen, mama? Is this to be a baby? That will be enough. >> My lord, are you hearing this? >> He's always just chilling. >> There's no need for your hysterics. >> Why is Miss Thompson to be kept away? >> Because her condition is captured. >> Oh my gosh. What do you mean? >> Who's the father? They still don't know. >> So Dafany may be in love. Does she think an accomplishment? What exactly has she accomplished then? She certainly did not build that man or bake him. [snorts] >> Now he straggles about. That's her face. Probably. That's her hair. And having a nice face and pleasant hair is not an accomplishment. Attending university. Far a man do that. >> I I really enjoy these two. >> And watch dear mama appear proud because some man should like to admire my sister's face and hair and fill her up with babies. >> I know someone with child. >> Is it your mama? >> Oh my gosh. She's got to get it out. >> Is a maid. >> Which one of your maids is married? >> She's not married. >> Oh. >> How did she become a child if she's not married? >> I do not know. I will find out. M. >> You must. Otherwise, how can we make sure it never happens to us? [laughter] >> It's contagious. >> I like the way she dresses. She's so bright. >> Oh, he was quite taken with your sister, Heisen. Or the entire party was for that matter. All eyes were on Daphne. >> Mom's so happy. >> Yep. >> Are you certain the entire party was not simply eyeing a tear in her dress? >> We count on the Duke of the Crawford Wall. She think it's a fair chance >> trying so hard to just focus on the playing. How terrible for a friend that she'd be off practicing piano forte with Aunt Winnie all season. >> How does the lady come to be with child? [laughter] WHAT a question. I thought we needed to be married. >> Ah, we got to have the talk. >> Eloise, that is more than enough. >> My gosh, [laughter and snorts] Eloise is stirring the pot, man. The way she asks the question. >> Is it the two of you? No. >> Do not look at me. >> Have you ever visited a farm? >> Well, [laughter] I do hope the two of you are not encouraging improper topics of conversation. >> That's where you learn. How does one come to be with child? [laughter] >> Take our sticks out. >> Call in Bridgetton >> around singing. >> Trying to give you hints. Take our sticks out. >> Humbult is coming. >> Humbled. Where's Humboldt coming? >> Humbult. >> Someone arrived. Humbult. >> Callers for Miss Daphne. >> The Duke. You You already have a caller, dearest. >> Well, you know, >> I suppose now I have more >> options. It's working. It's working. >> Got that ride up. >> Wow. >> Watch the show up again. Yeah, that her brother here. Speak of the devil. >> Come on, man. Oh, he's pissed. >> You said it would be me. >> I'm fing you. Damn. He just threw it. >> You said you will be taking me to your family. Jeez. >> I expected to be the only one present. I wore my satin mech. [snorts] >> I wore my my snee breaches. [laughter] >> Damn, dude. >> You were the only man who proposed, therefore the only one I thoroughly considered. For now, you must go along with everyone else. [clears throat] >> Oh, boy. >> I should like to know what is going on. >> Oh, I would like to know the very same. >> She is already engaged to be married. >> I'm not engaged, mama. Has anyone truly proposed to me? No. Have I proposed to anyone else? >> There you go. >> Do not be disrespectful, sister. >> Disrespectful. >> He is so controlling. >> Man, he's the worst. >> Then promising me to Nigel Burbrook. Anthony, tell me you did not. >> He's a fine choice. A fine choice. >> You brought your sister to that matter. Even mom doesn't like him, >> right? >> Does not matter. I now have many choices. Indeed. >> He's a jerk. >> Daphne has charmed a duke. Anthony, you must know that changes everything. >> Please do not tell me this little rebellion is to do with hastings. >> They are courting. >> They've danced. >> It does NOT SIGNIFY. >> THEY PROMINARD THIS MORNING and he sent flowers today to both of us. >> Expensive. >> Expensive. [laughter] >> The Duke is not a serious suitor. He will never marry. >> He knows him too well. I will not marry Nigel Burbrook. >> I have acted in your best interest. >> My gosh, you're annoying. >> The contract of Burbrook will be drawn up and you shall marry him. >> What? He put on his finest clothes and everything. >> Yeah, his breaches. Satin breaches. >> Satin breaches. >> Burbrook may not respect a woman's choice, but he certainly will respect a man's. >> Okay. >> What? >> Well, and if the Duke is not serious, I shall have others. Stephanie, I saw the way the two of you looked at each other. >> Oh, no. Mom is projecting. >> Yep. >> There are no other. >> She's convinced. >> Well, the theater >> that they have on display is very convincing, I suppose. >> Very convincing. >> Oh, the breathing I thought was something entirely different. >> Did you truly dance with a Bridgetton girl? >> Huh? [groaning] >> Well, this is a setup. Uh-huh. >> My return to town. [laughter] >> Admit it, friend. You missed me. This is how you This is sport. They're actually punching each other. Yeah, they're they're sparring old school, I guess. As >> many as you like, Bridget. >> This has to come back. >> My fists have taken enough pounding from your chin. >> Oh god. Oh god. I'm dead. Are you as experienced in the art of fisty cuffs? >> Let's be more precise. Great deal goes under my mind held back his punch like >> Morpheus. [laughter] >> And I can think of dozens of reasons why >> doesn't want to bloody that shirt. >> She is already engaged to be married and then perhaps circling back to she is my sister. >> Oh, cheap shot. Come on. >> Your problem is that Burbrook is a wholly unworthy suitor of Miss Bridget. >> That's the truth. >> He is perfectly decent. He has never seen going in and out of ruffle. Oh, >> it is furthest from my intentions to offend you. But surely you can understand that family must come before all else. >> Okay. >> Why are you sitting here to that dude? >> Why is he not saying anything? He's 4 years old. He should be able to speak. >> Oh my [sighs] god. >> He would have to be bloody Shakespeare with his letters if he cannot speak. >> Let us hear it, boy. Give me a word. A grunt. >> Oh no. >> Talk to me. Damn you. >> Pressure on. >> And if that's what it should take, I shall get a sound from him still. No. >> Yeah, you got one. >> What did you say? >> Oh, he's got a stutter. >> Yeah. >> What is he doing? >> Speaking. >> He's speaking. He's got a stutter. >> He's an imbecile. >> Your brace. >> He is an idiot. >> Wow. >> No wonder he hates his ass. >> We have been granted this line. The monarchy itself has declared it, but it will only remain ours so long as we remain extraordinary. >> Oh my god. You're speaking to that kid like he's an adult. Man, >> this is so much pressure to put on his little kid. >> He's dead to me. >> Whoa, >> man. >> Yeah, it's clearly understandable why he wants to distance himself from his father's name. >> Find you a few sweets. I thought you might enjoy them while everyone else attends tonight's ball. >> You can come in. I'm sure there's plenty to spare. >> Just worried about catching. >> I don't want to accidentally get pregnant. [laughter] >> May I ask how did it happen? Is she going to give you a straight answer? >> Cake. >> Come on. [laughter] >> She put the cake down. >> One Sunday, just when I thought I'd have to crawl under the pew from exhaustion, the eldest crane boy, George, Sir George Crane, sneaked me a wrapped bundle of cake and biscuits. >> That's what she meant. >> After some time, the bundles came to include small notes. We passed tiny missives back and forth for months. Never longed for church quite so much. >> But we continued to write. >> Ah. >> Oh, >> that's what she was reading. >> Your condition then? It was What about by >> love? >> Okay. >> Don't fall in love. It'll be all right. >> Yep. >> I love how she put down the cake. >> Yeah. She just looked at it. Wow. >> Impressive. And she's not even paying not even paying attention. Like that's insane. >> Your majesty, the royal physician has a report on the king. >> How is it possible that there has not been a single compelling betroal yet this season? >> Should the royal physician seek to tell me my husband is dead? Friends, >> I do not believe so, your majesty. >> Then tell him I am occupied. >> She just wants to be amused. >> Yeah, that's it. >> That's crazy [laughter] that this >> That's nuts. That's acrobatic person in front of her is the second screenable content. >> It's like having something [clears throat] on the TV background noise. >> Will it be the rubies or the pearls, miss? >> Oh, the pearls, of course. >> Perhaps the rubies would better catch the eye of even more new suitors. >> What is it, Mrs. Wilson? >> The queen bomb. >> Has she fallen ill? >> Has King George caused her harm? [snorts] >> She has written to you, my lady. >> Oh [ __ ] Oh [ __ ] Oh. I am invited to a private tea with the queen. >> Oh, dang. >> Huh? >> That's not nerve-wracking at all. >> I know. In two days. >> You shall wear the family diamonds tonight. >> Wow. >> Okay. >> Cuz easily she could be like 12 or 19. Like it's hard to say. >> The one the young one >> Dafhne. >> Oh, Daphne. Yeah. >> Do they say how old she is? >> I don't know. She looks like probably around 18 something. 19. >> Take my arm before you make us late. 21. That's 21. Wow. >> You are not dead after all. My lady, we were not expecting your visit. >> Not once seen in London. Yet here you are alive. >> Mhm. His father's a jerk. >> You look just like her. And a good thing, too. >> H. >> Have you learned to read, to write, to ride a horse, to fence? >> She's got most of it down. Yeah. >> Well, then whyever are you not in school? >> Talk for me, please. >> Like can. No, not >> we got to rent the king's speech for him. >> When I was a girl, I was afraid even of my own reflection. >> I entered a room and attempted to dissolve into the shadows. I knew I would have to step into the light someday, and I could not very well be frightened. I made myself frightening. >> I sharpened my wit, my wardrobe, and my eye, and I made myself the most terrifying creature. >> [laughter] >> You can speak. >> She's empowering him. >> I will help you to overcome this stammer of yours. >> Oh, she's awesome. What you need? >> You must promise me that when you step into the light, you will be worthy of the attention you command. >> Wow. >> Mhm. >> That's how his dad should have been. >> She properly like brought him out of that shadow. She might have made a monster. [laughter] She might have. >> The dance, Miss Bridget. >> I shall need someone else to seek me a glass of retavia then, Lord Bridgetton. >> Mhm. Let me get you over here. >> Look like we are enjoying ourselves, as difficult as that may be. >> Quite. [laughter] >> Do you think he's starting to like her? >> I don't know how much, but I think he's comfortable with her now. He's starting to be very comfortable with I can't believe she's supposed to be 21. She looks so young. >> She looks young. >> Oh, they're having a good time. >> Yeah, they're having a great time. [laughter] >> That guy look his eyes are glued, man. [laughter] >> Lord Bridget, forgive the intrusion. If need be, I will happily restate my intentions with respect to your sister. Boom. >> For her grace, >> for her powerful right hook. >> Certainly wish to avoid any kind of embarrassment. >> Rather late for that. >> Oh [ __ ] >> You too friendly with the Duke or simply too intimidated by his rank. >> Easy. >> Burbrook. >> I will resolve the matter. A matter which I shall remind the juke is none of his concern. >> Perhaps you are not the authority on what matters concern me, nor on the matter of Lord Burbrook's character. >> Okay. >> All right. Here we go. >> She might learn to return my affections over time. >> Oh, do come off at Burbrook. I presume he failed to mention how he got that purple eye. Yeah. >> Was careless with a cabinet door. >> He was careless with his honor. [laughter] >> With words when your sister plants a facer deservedly so. >> Yes. The truth. >> Dafany would have surely told me if this were true. >> Oh, come on, dude. >> Would she? >> Exactly. Really? I was careless with the cabinet door. [laughter] How do you even do that? >> You will never speak to my sister again, Burma. >> Okay. Not be married to be buried if you so much as look in our direction. >> Uhhuh. You will not take a punch from yet another British. >> You need not worry about Burbrook, sister. It is done. >> First good thing he's done. >> Yeah. >> I'm quite capable of speaking for myself. You had no right. >> I was trying to help. >> Well, you did not. >> Actually, he did. >> Not to mention people watching. You cannot assure me of anything. >> Oh my. >> I I I'm missing something. Why is she Why is this bad? >> She doesn't like anybody fighting her battles, it seems. >> So, >> is that the main thing? That's what it seemed like from that from that exchange. >> You follow me, Book. I thought this matter settled. >> It was settled until you had to go and spoil it. [groaning] >> Last night was a mistake. You understand that, do you not? >> There is not and never will be any kind of understanding between the two of us. >> Uh, he's he's going to try. He's persistent. >> You already have the the money and the connections and standing. I need her. >> Oh my gosh. Why have you not already proposed? Unless you've already had >> Oh boy. >> Hey now. Damn. >> For if I had already known she she was loose and damaged. >> Oh my gosh. >> Get another bruise. >> I shall not have you question the lady's unimpeachable honor again. >> Yes. >> Mhm. >> I've heard the stories of your father, Hastings. >> I know how badly he wanted a son. >> You're about to end up in the river. >> I know how badly he tried to get one when it seemed your poor mother could not deliver. >> Why are you doing this? Gosh, he's baiting you, man. >> The apple shoot. >> You're going to get hurt, dude. [laughter] >> God, you might die. >> Yeah, like you are by yourself with a dude who damn >> clearly hurt you. >> Yeah. [snorts] >> What do you >> You deserve that. >> Yeah. >> What is the point of your visit? >> I am receiving high marks in all of my studies, sir. >> Ah, I >> now you're going to want him or something. Don't Don't stutter. Don't do that. >> You are my worst failure. What might I remind you that this boy is to be the next Duke of Hastings and that he requires whatever reserves of fatherly nature reside in that frigid heart of yours? >> Tell him. >> So long as I may remind you of your place. >> Oh my god. >> Which is out of my sight and with your [ __ ] mouth shut. >> Whoa. Whoa. Poison his soup. >> I wrote to you many times to let you know I I'm not >> It's his dad, man. >> Not dead. [sighs] You are as useless as your mother proved to be. >> Wow. >> I shall pursue the same recourse with you as I did with her. To forget that you ever sullied these halls. >> Wow, that is so cruel. >> Recipe is my own. I'm quite certain the Duke should find it appealing. >> Does not matter what the Duke thinks, Rose. >> He's gallant, is he not? >> He's refined. >> Stop. >> Jeez. >> Oh, don't be mean to her. >> Yeah. >> Is the br not to your liking? >> No. >> Okay, >> it is perfect. I should like some more. >> There we go. There we go. >> Yeah. Watch yourself. >> Well, what have you learned from your mate? The one who was in the family way. >> She said it was love. >> Love. >> That doesn't stand down to reason >> and cake. [laughter] >> What else did she say? Was she not frightened? >> Sad. Frightened. >> She wants to escape to the country where she and her love will marry. >> When she's married, her life is over. Scarcely an escape. Penelope. >> The poor maid. Is he going to apologize? Oh, no. You're >> not aware, sister, of what Burbrook attempted? >> Ah, yeah. I would have helped you. >> Did you only change your mind about Lord Berbrook because another man told you? >> Oh, Julia esteemed me so little. >> After I apprised you of my wishes, and you proceeded to ignore them. >> Yeah, pretty much. All that right there. Like, didn't give a damn about what she said. >> Nope. >> What happened to your hand? >> Boxing. >> Uh-huh. >> Absurdity that passes for entertainment amongst men. Oh, little does he little does she know, >> right? Where do you see him next time? >> My cuff button. >> Everyone watches for jealousy. >> Have you considered you are not the type women wish to marry? >> I do suppose if I were forced to take a wife, you would be the least objectionable option. >> Oh, that's a hell of a line. >> So, you're telling me there's a chance. [laughter] >> But it is no matter if you wish to marry for love, do you not? >> Of course I do. >> Be so lucky. >> That's a long gaze. Oh god, he like roughed up. >> He still shows public. >> What have you done? >> [ __ ] him up. >> A special license for my wedding to Miss Bridgetton. >> Whoa. >> What? >> I imagine you would have instructed your sister to take better care than to encourage certain attentions. >> Of course, mere hearsay of such a scandal could wreak havoc on even the most influential of families. >> Oh my gosh. >> Lady Whistled Down do with such unseammly information. A threat. Certainly not >> this guy >> because in 3 days I am to marry. >> What? >> I look forward to the union of our great families. >> I was not expecting this guy to be this persistent. >> I thought he was going to be a >> kind of >> like a fly you. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Should Lord Burbrook decide to make good on his threat before you shoot him dead, brother. What happens then? >> He may decide to open his tiny mouth at any moment and then I shall be ruined. >> Oh my. So, what's the solution? It's crazy that people would just believe it. >> No, no, no, no, no, no. Oh my god. [laughter] He thought she's the audience, >> right? >> That's it. >> I have taught you to believe that marriage is the best that life has to offer. But it is not simply a partner that marriage provides. You will have comfort and most importantly, children. >> Oh gosh. You will throw yourself into raising your family. >> This is all of your value. >> You will find much joy. >> But I I don't know why the people would just believe that guy. I mean, the Duke was there. He was a witness. He could just say that didn't happen. >> You the two of you were so beautiful. Mama, that is what I wanted. That is all I hope to one day find. >> The wonderful union. >> Eloise Bridgetton. >> The one who doesn't know how babies are made. >> Yeah. >> Is smoking. [laughter] >> Go on then. Chastise me. >> Can I have one of those? >> Spare one for me. Yep, >> there we go. [laughter] >> Got my own secrets. >> Suppose I want a different life, Benedict. That I truly believe I am quite capable of something more. >> Okay, >> then I would say that you're not the only one. >> Oh, okay. Soulmates. >> We belong together. [laughter] >> I thought that was her brother. Am I wrong? I'm getting the families mixed up. >> There are so many people you >> What's that? Is it her brother? >> I don't know. I get I'm getting those two families mixed up. >> How is she? >> She is to marry. >> I don't know. >> And you are free to do as you please. >> Isn't he a Bridget? I think he's a Bridgetgerton. >> I'm sorry. [laughter] >> It's okay, man. It's a lot of people. >> I just thought there was some like one of the other people. [laughter] >> Oh god, look how just the opulence. >> Insanity. I wonder where they shot this. >> Probably at a museum. Your Majesty, >> you know, you have those places you can visit, those houses that are like >> that become basically a museum. >> Yes, >> Grimsley. Fresh snuff. >> The dog eats so well. The dog eats better than most people do. >> I'm sure. >> I expected a great future for your daughter upon her entrance into society. A future with someone like a duke. >> Oh god. >> Certainly be most enchanting indeed. M. Why is she so into this? [clears throat] [laughter] >> Why does she care so much? >> Fresh snuff. I don't know. I guess she likes the entertainment. >> What are we to do, Mom? We are to invite Lady Bird over for team, Mrs. Wilson, at once. >> Okay. >> All right. Look at that house, man. It's crazy. >> Miss [snorts] Bridgetton, allow me to set my eyes upon you. [laughter] >> Certainly healthy, [snorts] even if your countenance is a bit drawn. >> Good teeth. My Nigel is quite discerning. He already turned away many more handsome debbit on saying I prize accomplishment over beauty. >> Okay. >> Chop chop. >> What the hell was that? >> Nom nom. It's something crunchy. It's the almonds. >> Housekeepers. They believe themselves the sun and the moon. When in truth it is us ladies maze that do all the hard work. >> I have one just like her. >> How troublesome could a household be with only Lady Burbrook and the young Lord Burbrook to look after? No, you have no idea. >> Oh, I bet. >> Oh, tell Bick. >> Yeah, there we go. Give me the gossip. >> What have you found? What is going on? >> Oh, that's Yeah. >> Well, you could not think I would ask that woman for tea without a thought for you, could you? >> Lord Burbrook has a boy by one of his maids that he refused to provide for, >> dude. >> Oh, >> horrible man. Horrible enough for us to be rid of him. Let us pray. >> Huh? >> Good job. >> Nice. >> Who will believe a group of women over a man's word? Perhaps no one, but they will if Lady Whistled Down does. So we shall >> what we mean. >> Oh, there. >> Nice. >> We shall talk. >> Talk talk. >> Every Baron has a bastard. >> The bastards you sent away before the miss even popped. >> You don't say. >> Oo, tell Jenny and Mary. >> Ah, someone overheard it, too. >> It's moving like fire. >> Yep. >> I would not be surprised if Lord Berbrook were called away to the [laughter] country. >> Oh, man. business which perhaps might involve sending some much overdue funds to one. >> Oh, >> who we can only hope takes after his mother. >> Done. >> I've heard talk that B has left town. >> Mom has handled it. >> Flawless victory. [laughter] >> Fatality. >> I am resolved to handle matters differently in the future. >> That works as you should. Uh-huh. >> I know society has dictated your present role in this family, Anthony. But with Daffany officially at, I assure you, I am more than capable. >> You could go chill. >> Most appropriate hem for your sister when she decides to marry the Duke. >> Oh god, we're still okay. >> Perhaps your bride would like the same. >> Oh, well, let's circle back to them. [laughter] >> Anyway, just a reminder. >> Surely your mistress does not plan on confining me to this bedroom forever. >> I should think one has only herself to blame for her confine. Oh my god. >> God damn. >> She's horrible. >> You hear stories about hopeless endings. It is all very frightening. >> Eloise, you mustn't worry. >> You're frightened too, sister. Of marriage, of children. >> I find children to be delightful. I'm >> glad you do. >> Surely you've not forgotten what happened to Ma. Her screams that night. >> I hear them sometimes still in my dreams. She almost died me months after papa. >> Wow. >> You remember correctly? But at dawn the world had higher sense and we are all the rich for it. >> Yes, Eloise. There are perhaps darker turns in this woods. >> Well, you only told the good stuff, aren't you? >> There is life. You found it. >> Scared of having kids in the future. I don't know. >> One day we both will find it. >> She's not. >> It must be taxing. >> She doesn't want to do that. >> The game of pretend that you feel you must endlessly maintain. >> Whoa. Just cut straight through it. >> Yep. You should not have lost your temper with your bird. >> You should know something about this, Bridgetton. >> I will not tolerate a bully. >> And you should know something about me, your grace. >> You mean our ruse. >> It's more than a ruse now. >> Huh? >> This is not just about finding the best match to impress Lady Whistled Down. This is about a life, my life. I must finally take charge of it. >> All right. >> If you are not in agreement, then you should tell me now. >> I shall agree. >> Okay. >> On one condition. >> What is this condition? I don't understand your grace. >> But you call me Simon. >> Oh, >> very well. Simon. >> H. >> Is there something funny? >> No. No. >> She's perfectly fine. >> You're perfectly fine. Not very well. Die. >> They are very close to kissing. >> Yeah. >> Oh. Oh. [screaming] >> I feel like >> something's brewing. >> Yeah. >> I wish to find a husband. >> Uh-huh. Yeah, she found him. >> The time we have a family. >> Gulp >> children. >> Unless you ask. >> Uhhuh. >> Come on. Do you not see your own feelings for this woman? This 21-year-old woman, right? This woman who's not [laughter] >> still a teenager. >> May I have the pleasure? >> Oh, no. Are we going to get jelly? >> Maybe. Now, >> the two of you certainly make a captivating match. Grace, >> the ruse is getting real. >> Whatever is bothering you. >> He likes her. >> Mhm. >> Ain't she him? >> NOTHING'S ALL. >> AH, you're cracking. >> Oh, this guy. [sighs] >> Oh, his final moments. >> Guess so. >> Really? Oh, okay. You need somebody now. >> Really >> about to hurry you along. >> You have returned [laughter] to take your rifle blades. I assure you. It smells of pride. Now hit the juke you have grown into. >> No thanks to you. >> For I've only returned to do it one thing. To make you a vow. Any vow I will ever make in my life. I will never marry. >> Oh. >> The Hastings line will die with me. Oh, gotcha. >> Are my words clear enough for you, father? >> The ultimate payback. >> Yeah. >> Monster. >> He is a monster. >> He really is. >> Speak. >> He doesn't have to hold to that promise, though. >> Oh, he got him excited now. He died. >> Yeah. >> Um, >> to get that heart rate up. >> But he doesn't have to hold to that promise. What matters is that he sent him with that feeling into the next >> It doesn't matter now. Yeah, >> he got his revenge there. >> That second episode flew by. >> Yeah, it did. I really enjoyed that second episode. >> Is it No, it's long. It's longer. >> What the hell? How did that longer than the first one? >> I think so. Yeah, it's longer. Yeah. >> By about like 4 minutes. Um, wow. Fascinating. Like the it it it just get, you know, it gets better because I, you know, the first episode is always like kind of just getting you up to speed with a lot of stuff and it's got a lot that it's catching you up on real fast and then now you're into the thick of it. It's hard to see what's going to keep on and what's going to just dissipate, but like Okay. Do you do you see Spider-Man um across the Spider-Verse? >> Yeah. Uh the animated one, right? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. So, the the Spot character, the white the white costume, Sperm looking guy. So, I thought he was just a villain you dismiss and then he kept coming back and he actually ended up becoming a bigger problem over the course of the movie, which was really unexpected. And that's kind of how I felt about the the uh what's his name? The >> uh >> Burke. The Burke guy. I forgot his name. >> Yeah, I think it's Burke. Um the guy who kept the the one who got bruised in the face a couple times. Like I wasn't expecting him to come back and and be a growing issue. >> Yeah. >> Um but then equally, I was surprised that >> they finished him off in this episode. >> Yeah. >> At least it's what it seems at a cursory glance. Well, it seemed like once he did come back and he came back pretty strong that he was going to be a problem for a while >> because he was such a big problem. >> Um, but I thought it was genius how they got rid of him. That was smart. >> Yeah. >> They used the help and they used their power of gossip to to essentially nerf what he was going to do, which was he was going to let out some some gossip as well. And they got to him first. He ended up having to leave town. >> Yeah. He ended up hiding to save face or Well, >> I guess >> Yeah. >> Yeah. He just his his reputation was completely ruined. Good. Cuz he was awful. >> He wasn't saving any face anymore cuz it was already out there. >> Well, he just wasn't taking no for a goddamn answer. >> Like no means no. >> No. His mind was set, man. Like you uh mentioned in the first one, we're starting to see Simon and uh what's her name? >> Dafany. Yeah. Starting to see them kind of starting to like each other. Now we finally find out why he's not going to marry or he's not interested in becoming. >> Well, it's not it's not fully clear if Deafany actually has feelings for him. She seems pretty staunch on like her direction, >> but there was that fleeting moment where he he put his hand on her back and she kind of felt something. >> I see her giving him some looks. So, I don't know, maybe I'm reading that wrong. the way the show was maybe there is a lot to come but the what was told to me was that there's a lot of saucy stuff in the show like a lot of intimate scen I mean so far it could change rapidly real fast the next episode could just be all boinking but um the reason I mentioned that is because little stuff like the him touching the small not the small upper back but her her mid upper back it's like that very light-skinned contact it kind of just reminds me of high school of like when little thing was everything >> and you get very excited about such a small thing even your hands touch or something like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you're right. >> You go to the bathroom and you're like, why are my pants so wet [laughter] >> and suddenly so tight? >> Uh yeah. No, that's true though. Especially especially [clears throat] um [laughter] especially as a first time. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. It's just like the little things are are are are just so magnified in your brain because it's a new experience. >> The only word I can come up with to describe it is it's just very sweet. >> Yeah. >> You know, it's the small stuff. >> And so it's very clear that he's struggling now about whether or not to reneg on this promise that doesn't matter ultimately. >> It's like who cares? Like he's gone. >> Yeah. I think his his hate for him is so deep that he just feels like he needs to keep with that. But I guess that looks like that's going to be his struggle. >> I mean, honestly, the the hate is is completely understandable because whatever that experience was lives rentree in his his spirit, in his mind. It's like he had to deal with that's a horrible horrible thing to deal with in your for like your your sponge years, you know, like what your your your earliest memories is your father just completely rejecting you and and looking at you as just his worst failure. >> Yeah. It's horrible. As a dad who has a son who's on the spectrum and didn't speak or still has trouble speaking, I just can't even get in the headsp space of his father being like that, >> you know? It's just so cruel. >> Yeah. >> And but the guy was a jerk. We saw how he treated the mom when she was giving birth. Like tell me, is it a son? Is it a son? What is it? >> You know, so yeah, that guy, I hate him. Yeah, >> he was evil. He he really >> I mean I I would love to believe that that's just fiction, but like I can imagine that in high society stuff it's like it's kind of like 300 that's >> Yeah. Yeah, you're right. >> See the the the the mountain of all the baby skulls, >> right? They weren't strong enough or they weren't powerful. Yeah. No, you know, >> I guess, you know, for the time it's it's such it's like the most important thing. >> Yeah. >> To give uh to have a good heir who can take over and create more heirs. >> Yeah. I'm I'm going to say this to you now because you're not going to remember because it's going to be so long before you get to the thing. But in Game of Thrones, the series at some point, you you encounter this scene. I'm being kind of vague on purpose in case anyone tries to correct me, but like in the series, you encounter this thing where this person's this woman's giving birth [snorts] >> and the the king is just trying to like have he's trying to what do they call it? Sire an offspring. Is that what they say? The phrase that they used? >> I think so. >> I I correct me if I'm wrong. I apologize, but you you understand what I'm trying to say. Like you're try they want to produce an offspring and specifically a boy. >> And this uh character is being met with a dilemma of do I have my wife continue to give uh birth at the risk of her life or do I keep her alive? And he chooses to risk her life to have this boy. the boy comes out, the mom dies, >> and then he loses his son anyway because I think the son becomes like still born or something. It's been a minute since I've watched that episode, but it's just like it I I I really hated that episode because it's just the horrible treatment >> and I'm like, "God, that sucks so bad." Like, you're just this machine at a certain point to produce this man's wishes, >> right? >> That's like so gross. And that's exactly what we saw here. It's like he came in and he wasn't even like, "Are you doing okay?" >> Like, not even feigning any compassion. It's like, "Is it a boy or not?" Like, whoa, dude. >> Yeah. It's horrible. And then to see when he's on his deathbed, he's like, "My son, you you grew out to grew up to be such a great guy." Or whatever he said after the way he treated him like [ __ ] all through his formative years. It's just disgusting, man. >> Yeah. >> So, they did a great job of making me feel stuff. It's fascinating because they make you ask questions and in the first episode you're like, why wouldn't he want his father's name? What is that about? Sure. And then when they show you, you're like, well, godamn, like I was expecting something bad, but not that bad, >> right? >> You know, and what's what's fascinating is >> so many shows try to impact you with a gratuitous amount of violence and whatnot. Yeah. This was all just like a treatment of another character and it hurt so much to watch, you know. >> Yeah. And and prior to that, you don't really know if maybe he his father was misunderstood, maybe his father did something like left them and he had to or whatever it could be. But there's no doubt that his father was just a horrible person once we get past this. >> Whatever the reasons are, that's no like you can't excuse treating a kid that way. No way. >> Yeah. That's that's just [ __ ] But it is it is interesting to see like the the slow burn of development of Daphne and Simon. It's like it's so bizarre because like at any moment they could just switch like that. >> Good. >> But they're going to it's one of those things where I feel like they're going to just have you like hook line and sinker, man. Like they they're going to just keep you on the edge. >> It's going to be a while. I feel like Well, like Yeah. It's in my mind it feels like the way they're going about it, it could be the whole season before they even kiss. >> Could be even longer than that. Yeah. >> But they might surprise you and then it's like the next episode they're making a baby. >> Who knows? They got right into it in the first episode, like we were right into the plot. But, um, I'm I'm I'm actually very excited to see what's happening with some of these side characters, too. Like the the girl with the kind of deeper voice, you know, just what she's talking about. Obviously, she when she was sitting on the swing, she's talking about Elo sitting on the bench. Yeah. Eloy. How she's talking about, you know, she doesn't see that for herself like getting married, having kids. She has something else in mind, even if she can't really do it. >> And then you see, um, he also says the same thing when she's talking to him. He said, "Yo, I'm looking for the for also something else that I'm not supposed to be doing or that I'm not expected to do." Curious to see what's going to happen there. And then also our girl who's pregnant, like you said, you're curious to see who the father is. And I'm I'm just surprised that they're keeping her locked up in that place. So, I want to see if she's going to try to escape or what's going to happen with that. It's pretty uh it's thickening. >> Just got to find a little water fountain to throw through the window. [laughter] >> That's it. >> I don't know what movies you've seen and not seen. Yeah. Well, I I would just assume that that is referring to one of the movies that you mentioned, which would be probably Tangled or >> No, no, no, no. It's a reference to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah. And so, >> I still haven't seen that. >> Okay. Well, you you have no idea what the context is there. Anyway, yeah, I just I can't imagine being cooped up like that. That would make you feel crazy. And then your behavior becomes interpreted as um ill-behaved, ill-mannered. It's like you have her cooped up though, like she's >> she's a prisoner, man. >> It's Yeah, that's just gross. >> Yeah, >> that sucks. >> But I I really enjoyed the whole innocence of our younger characters where how does one come with uh I forget how they phrase it. It's fun language, but >> how does one become with child? >> With child. Yeah, exactly. How does one become with child? And then the the bit with the bread. It's like all of that was so much fun. It's like the little stuff, but that's You see exactly why I love that actress. She's so good. >> Oh, yeah. No, she's great. Yeah. No, I enjoyed that. They'll find out at some point. >> Yeah. >> I like the little banter with the brothers when she sat down and asked them about it. They're like uh and then he makes a joke about pulling his pulling their sticks out or whatever it was. Yeah. Yeah, >> that was fun. I was uh surprised that the Burke guy was so brazen like try to antagonize the Duke more and more and more. I'm like you've already demonstrated that you have a concern about like being attacked and whatnot. This guy's bigger than you and I don't know that just is so stupid. But I suppose that speaks to his character is he's a total idiot. >> Idiot. >> He's a total idiot. And so naturally, he would just keep poking and proddding until he gets punched in the face several times. It's like, what are you going to learn? >> Yeah, I thought for sure that he was doing that to get him to hit him so that he could use that against him, but he didn't really use that. I mean, he just felt that way. Like, why would you do that otherwise? >> I guess you you got to admire his tenacity cuz he's like >> going about in public with his face all purple. I'm like, I I don't dude like I wouldn't step outside. My vanity is too high for that. Like, I would just be hiding for a while. We got to answer all these questions all the time, too. Because of course, when you first walk up, people like, "What the [ __ ] happened to your face, man?" And then you have to make up something. So, yeah. I don't know. [snorts] >> I don't know about this guy. He's gone now, so whatever. >> Isn't that like the worst though? Like, if you have like if you walked in with a cast, right, and let's say you had it on for like two weeks, >> you're going to be so tired of by the time you get to me where I go, "What happened?" It's like, "God damn Like I've already talked about this like a hundred times, >> especially if it's something you don't want to admit. >> Yeah. And so something had happened where um I had the uh you saw like I had the reaction. It was like it was like a um what do you call it? Um an allergic reaction to something. I don't even know what it was on my face and it looked like a bug bit me, >> right? >> And I was so irritated with it and I was irritated with people asking me and I was editing one day and Kristen walked in and goes, "What happened to your face?" So I'm like, "Don't ask." [laughter] >> I was so >> like, "You reached your >> limit." Yeah. She's like, "I don't know why you're so mad at me." I'm like, "Not mad at you. I'm mad at my face. I don't know why my face is [laughter] doing this." >> I get that. >> Yeah. And so like I I just would I didn't want to go out. I didn't want I just wanted to hide for a while. And so this dude, [laughter] >> you know, >> he he was not worried about that for some reason. I mean, I guess he would just set on his goal. >> Yeah. So >> he I mean that's the He just was so taken by her. He's like I have to have her no matter the cost. >> He knows it. He didn't care. >> What was on that paper that he had? >> Oh, that's what I was trying to figure out. I think it was like basically Okay. Okay. I think it was like papers for them to be together or wed or whatever it was. And he was trying to use that. He was basically trying to blackmail them and saying that he will tell that they were on the dark path together and did something. >> Right. Right. Right. Well, he just wanted to ruin her reputation, I guess. >> If I can't have her, nobody can have her kind of thing, >> which is super shitty. >> Mhm. I'm continuously impressed by this set design and costumeuming in this though, man. It's pretty amazing. >> Do you think we're done with him? The Burke guy. Do you think he's done done? We spent a lot of time on that. >> I don't know. >> Was he just a a pest for these first two episodes? Yes. >> I'm curious. >> He was dispelled a little quickly like in a like in 10 15 minutes. >> I suppose he served his purpose in so far as it told us a lot about what um um Daphne has to go through and what women in general have to go through and then and like the the [clears throat] hurdles that they face themselves. Yeah. >> Um and allowing us the opportunity to have empathy for her because of like this is how this this is where people see your value is. these are the choices that you have or don't have as it were. There's a lot that was revealed to us about just like the state of things >> by him being there and so it's possible he's served his purpose and so we can move on to other aspects of the show. Um but >> that's true. The women don't really get to make their own choices when it comes unfortunately at this time. >> Right. >> Yeah. >> But anyway, I'm actually quite enjoying this. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I anticipated I might. >> Yeah. you know, cuz like the thought of watching Bridgetgerton was like the last thing on my mind like like if I was going through Netflix, but uh I decided to I actually decided to give it a shot a few months ago, but didn't commit to it until recently. And so um yeah, I'm I'm actually this is one of those things. Okay, I've never seen Sex in the City, okay? >> But a friend of mine, uh, a former friend of mine told me about this experience he had and he was over hanging out with some people and they found a DVD of Sex in the City and for for just for shiggles. They're like, "Let's put this on, you know, it'll be background or whatever, right, >> just to amuse themselves." And uh, they got to the end of the first DVD and they were like, "So, >> are we done? Who else wants to watch the next DVD? >> Yeah. >> Like they they they were like then they powered through the whole season cuz they just were so like into it. >> Yeah. >> Um and so I think that if I was like dating someone and they they like forced me to watch the first episode of Bridgetgerton after being so reluctant, I mean I would be like [ __ ] now I got to just watch this whole like all night.
