I would bet almost anything that eventually we're going to find an even older version of these similar ideas in a nearby valley, but for the time being Caral remains the oldest civilization of the Americas. A very cool place to see. If you're ever in Lima and don't know what to do with yourself, I highly recommend making the trip up to Caral and Aspero. They are more than worth the effort.
