But what happens if you deliberately and systematically break these rules? Which music apps would ban you? Spotify? YouTube Music? And which would let your non-compliance slide? Apple Music? Maybe Soundcloud? Part of me thinks nothing would happen, with some musicians seemingly frequently breaking the rules without consequence. NBA YoungBoy, Future and Drake talk about illegal stuff in their songs all the time, and Kanye, Bad Bunny and Lil Wayne have all uploaded music with uncleared samples. Not to mention artists like Young Thug, Gunna, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift who have allegedly bought botted streams in the past without punishment. But that’s a different conversation, one I discussed in my ‘Buying Fake Spotify Streams Until I Get Banned’ video! Anyway, I wanted to find out what would happen if a regular joe, like me, was to break each app’s platform rules. So, in this video, I’ll show you how I accidentally got banned from (almost) every music app. First I took on industry leaders Spotify, who have had rule-breaking-run-ins with musicians like XXXTentacion, Tay K, and French Montana in the past. Adding myself to that list, I broke the Swedish streaming app’s ‘illegal content’ rule by making a song that encourages jaywalking (taboo, I know). Although I was simply testing Spotify’s rules, I was secretly hoping to become an overnight musical success, just like Justin Bieber, Yeat, Sabrina Carpenter or EsDeeKid! Needless to say that didn’t happen, but I was eager to see what Spotify’s reaction would be regardless. Next up was Apple Music, who have experienced their fair share of ethical dilemmas in the past regarding Taylor Swift’s royalties, Frank Ocean and Drake’s exclusivity and more. After breaking a major Apple Music rule, I moved on to a seemingly more lenient music app: Soundcloud. Here, I uploaded a track that essentially phished for people’s sensitive information (in a totally joke-y non-serious way, I promise). Similarly, on Amazon Music, I made a fabricated clip of Taylor Swift, making it appear like she loves greenhouse gasses (which probably isn’t that far from the truth). Last but not least, I attempted to get banned from YouTube Music by impersonating Future, uploading albums like ‘The Real Me’ and ‘DS2’ and tracks like ‘Mask Off’ and ‘Life Is Good’ to the platform. But, after everything, which music app’s banned me? Did Spotify finally take action against a rule-breaker? Did Apple Music maintain their no-nonsense persona? And were Soundcloud as lenient as they appear? You’ll have to watch to find out!
