Video Transcript

this is number 42 uh chapter 5 this is looking at the uh ideal gas law and 42 reads um what is the temperature of 0.52 moles of gas and so that's going to be our n value um at a pressure of 1.3 atmospheres and a volume of 11.8 lers what is the temperature given those three values and so this is where we want to use the ideal gas law expression pval nrt and we're looking for temperature and so we can rearrange pval nrt to be equal to T being equal to PV over n * R and we can just plug and chug into this equation we have to be in the correct units for our r value so we have to kind of remember it and so remember we need to be in pressure we need to be in 1.3 at atmospheres we want our pressure to be in atmospheres our volume we also want to be in liters so those units are fine moles is moles so we have 0.52 moles and the reason why we have to have these specific units is because of our gas law constant 0.082 and that's liter atmospheres per mole Kelvin I know it's kind of small over there so I'll kind of write it over here so that r value is 0.082 and those units are liter atmospheres per mole Kelvin and so that's why we need our volume always to be in liters our pressure atmospheres our temperature Kelvin for this ideal gas law expression in order for our gas law constant to work and so the temperature that we get when we do that is [Music] 39.75 Kelvin and we can show that you know our atmospheres cancel out our moles cancel out our liters cancel out and then we're left with really uh one over one over Kelvin which turns out to be a Kelvin in the final product that is number 42
