Currently Playing: Takeaway Tuesday S1E1: Rapport and Social Support

“What’s your name?”, Do you go to school?” and “What’s your favorite subject?” are not the best questions for rapport development. The task of Forensic Interviewers is to create an atmosphere in which children are willing to discuss challenging topics with a stranger in an unfamiliar environment. When interviewers fail to develop rapport or provide adequate social support, children are less likely to share their experiences completely and accurately. Child-led topics of discussion and an open-style of questioning during rapport successfully encourages children to provide lengthy responses with minimal interviewer input. This Takeaway Tuesday episode will give you specific content that you can use immediately to improve rapport development and social support in your forensic interviews.
