Seekers Complete Qur'an Tafsir | Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

This course is an in-depth analysis into the text, themes, and messages of the Qur'an. An analysis of what God chose to say to humanity in His last communication to us. It aims to provide a clear, text focused explanation of the Qur'an, showing its key rhetorical, textual, and thematic nuances. Naturally, much is lost in translation. Context, themes, connections between verses and chapters, and deeper meanings cannot all be conveyed in an attempt at a clear, articulate translation. To fully grasp their implications, the Qur’an needs deeper study. The Qur’an is an Arabic text, and a lot of what it has to say must be understood through the Arabic language. This course is based, primarily, on two tafsirs: the first, one of the most authoritative tafsirs ever written, Irshad al ‘Aql al Salim Ila Mazaya al Kitab al Karim (Instruction of the Sound Intellect to the Perfections of the Supreme Book), by the great Ottoman Master Scholar Abu al Su’ud al ‘Imadi. The second, al Tafsir al Wasit, by the late Shaykh al Azhar, Muhammd Sayyid Tantawi. A contemporary work that, along with the authors own contributions, draws on the conclusions of authoritative texts of the field. Students will gain an appreciation of style, beauty, and deeply interconnected and coherent tapestry of the Qur’anic text. Many valid textual understandings will be discussed, with a look at how the dominant, most eloquent positions were identified. The course will also give an insight into the nuances learned through an analysis of root meanings of many key Qur’anic words. The analysis will provide all the key elements needed for further reflection on the deeper implications of Qur’an meanings.
